In the latest episode of Chad Prather’s show, the outspoken host tackles the controversial topic of the U.S. Department of Education, its history, and its impact on the American education system. Prather critiques the department’s inefficiencies, standardized testing, and its failure to deliver meaningful results since its establishment in 1979. He also highlights the growing trend of homeschooling as a response to what he calls “brainwashing institutions” and the lack of critical thinking being taught in schools.

The Department of Education: A Bureaucratic Failure?

Prather argues that the Department of Education has done little to improve the quality of education in the United States, calling it a “bureaucracy” that has never educated anyone. He points out that prior to the department’s creation, students were often better educated, citing historical examples of rigorous exit exams from the early 1900s that even modern PhD students struggle to pass. According to Prather, the department’s focus on standardized testing, such as the STAR test in Texas, has replaced real education with rote memorization and performance metrics.

He also notes that the department’s creation in 1979 did not lead to significant improvements in educational outcomes. Instead, he claims that test scores and overall performance have “nose-dived” since the early 2000s, further fueling his call to dismantle the department entirely.

Homeschooling: A Growing Alternative

Prather highlights the rise of homeschooling, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, as parents became more aware of what was being taught in schools. He shares his personal experience with homeschooling, noting that his own son, at just 18 years old, has already earned three college degrees, including one in mechanical engineering.

He praises homeschooling as a viable alternative to public education, emphasizing its ability to foster critical thinking and avoid what he describes as the “indoctrination” happening in traditional schools. Prather also humorously touches on the challenges of homeschooling, joking about sibling rivalries and the occasional “bully” being an older brother.

Federal Funding and Mismanagement

A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to discussing the misuse of federal funding in education. Prather criticizes the centralized control of education funds, arguing that states should have more autonomy in deciding how to allocate resources. He suggests that returning funding to the states could lead to better results, particularly in red states like Texas, which he believes would thrive without federal interference.

Prather also takes aim at the broader issue of government mismanagement, referencing the misuse of taxpayer dollars for projects that fail to deliver tangible benefits. He ties this into his broader critique of federal overreach and inefficiency.

Cultural Commentary and Humor

As always, Prather injects humor and cultural commentary into the discussion. He pokes fun at celebrities like Billy Baldwin for their takes on education policy and criticizes the current state of public schools, including controversial topics like “gender closets” and “kitty litter boxes” in classrooms. While these remarks are delivered with his signature wit, they underscore his broader concerns about the direction of public education.

Final Thoughts

Prather concludes the episode with a call to action, urging listeners to reconsider the role of the federal government in education and to explore alternatives like homeschooling. He emphasizes the importance of returning to a system that prioritizes critical thinking and real-world skills over standardized testing and bureaucratic control.
