Chris Sale, Tarik Skubal earn first career Cy Young Awards

Tarik Skubal and Chris Sale, both of whom won the pitching Triple Crown (wins, ERA, strikeouts) in their respective leagues, were named the American League and National League Cy Young Award winners Wednesday.

It was the first time each of them won the award.

Skubal pitched to a 2.39 ERA, and his 228 strikeouts and 18 wins (tied with Sale) were tops in all of baseball. He received all 30 first-place votes in the American League, winning the award unanimously on his 28th birthday. Seth Lugo of the Royals finished second, while Cleveland closer Emmanuel Clase, who had a 0.61 ERA, finished in third.

It was not that long ago Skubal was a middling arm. In 2021, he had a 4.34 ERA in 31 appearances.

Last season, in 15 starts, he showed his potential with a 2.80 ERA. This year, though, he put it all together to become the ace of a squad that rallied late to clinch a postseason berth.

For Sale, it was a resurgent year after he had made just 31 starts from 2020 to 2023 after several years of dominance. The 35-year-old took the hill 29 times last season and dominated with MLB bests in ERA (2.38) and K/9 (11.4), along with 225 strikeouts.

Sale received 26 first-place votes, while the Phillies’ Zack Wheeler, who finished in second, received the other four. NL Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes finished in third. From 2012 to 2018, Sale finished no worse than sixth place in the Cy Young voting, and this marks the first time he won the award.

Sale had already been named the NL’s Comeback Player of the Year and was named to the All-MLB first team. The Atlanta Braves acquired the lefty and cash from the Boston Red Sox before the 2024 season for Vaughn Grissom, who hit .190 in 31 games this season. Turns out, it was a decent trade for Atlanta.

The MLB awards will wrap up Thursday, when Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani are expected to be named the AL and NL MVPs after combining for 112 home runs and 274 RBIs.

Iran hiding missile, drone programs under guise of commercial front to evade sanctions

Iran has turned to its commercial sector to conceal its development of ballistic missiles in a move to circumvent international sanctions, turning private companies into fronts for its illicit military dealings.

Sources embedded within the Iranian regime and its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and who are also affiliated with the Iranian resistance group called the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, have collected months of information on how the civilian workforce is unknowingly fueling Tehran’s war machine.

According to a report by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) exclusively obtained by Fox News Digital, civilian companies involved with oil, gas, petrochemicals and electronic components are susceptible to Tehran’s determination to bolster its missile and drone programs, especially as tensions with the West continue to mount over its aid to Russia’s war efforts in Ukraine as well as Iran’s direct and indirect attacks on Israel.

Iran missile

The NCRI is sounding the alarm that at least three companies in Iran, including the Kaveh Mobadel Industrial Co., also known as Kaveh Machinery Co. (KMC), Sanaye Garma Gostar (SGG), also dubbed the Garma Gostar Industries, as well as the Sana Bargh Tavan Co., also known as SBT Electric, are tasked with producing items used to develop missile and drones.

“The Iranian regime’s missile program is not limited to the dozens of known military sites of the Aerospace Force of the IRGC or the Ministry of Defense,” Alireza Jafarzadeh, deputy director of the NCRI in the U.S., told Fox News Digital. “It has built a sophisticated network of commercial companies to cover up the true extent of Tehran’s missile and drone programs, as well as evading sanctions and accountability.”

Fox News Digital could not reach any of the mentioned companies for comment, but according to findings provided by embedded sources, these companies are not only subject to inspection by the Iranian Ministry of Defense but also hold contracts with the IRGC and the regime.

Despite evidence to suggest that while company executives are aware of how their businesses are being used to circumvent sanctions, the workers within the companies apparently remain uninformed despite dubious production demands.

The NCRI said it had obtained information indicating that certain items have entered the companies’ production lines that are incompatible with the business platforms.

One example highlighted in the NRCI report pointed to dozens of aluminum tanks allegedly being produced for the “dairy industry,” though the report also pointed out that “using aluminum for dairy purposes is prohibited.”

Iran missiles

While there is a strong indication that the Iranian regime is doing what it can to keep its efforts to circumvent sanctions secret, even within its own borders, some products being manufactured have likely not escaped notice.

The Sana Bargh Tavan Co., a collection of electronic factories situated in an area known as Pardis Technology Park and produces elevator drives, was reportedly discovered to be manufacturing “electronic boards for missiles and drones under the guise of other industrial products for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.”

The complex was also reported to be “under the control of the IRGC, and visitors’ access is regulated.”

Iran’s attempts to circumvent sanctions are nothing new, and despite heavy sanctions by the U.S., U.K. and the European Union (EU), Iran has continued to develop its nuclear and missile programs

Iran ballistic

In October 2023, U.N. sanctions on Iran, which prohibited its ability to import or export missiles, drones and other related technology without prior U.N. Security Council approval under Resolution 2231, expired.

Though the sanctions were believed to have slowed Iran’s ability to develop its missile and drone programs, it did not halt it altogether.

“The Iranian regime has relied on the expansion of its missile program to make up for its near-zero air power and minimal air defense capabilities,” Jafarzadeh told Fox News Digital.

“The missile program serves two purposes for the regime: one is arming its regional proxies, such as Hezbollah, and the second, which is of strategic significance, is building missiles capable of carrying a nuclear warhead,” he added.

The U.S. last year deemed that Iran’s “missile program remains one of the greatest challenges to international nonproliferation efforts,” and it has since implemented several rounds of targeted sanctions.

Iran drones missiles

The U.K. and the EU on Monday announced fresh sanctions on Tehran over its support for Russia, targeting its shipping industry that is allegedly used to transfer drones and missiles.

Iran has repeatedly denied sending missiles or drones to Russia for its war against Kyiv, but the use of Iranian-made Shahed drones to target soldiers and civilians alike has been well documented in Ukraine.

Russia launched intercontinental ballistic missile toward Ukraine, air force says

Russian troops launched various missiles, reportedly including an intercontinental ballistic missile from the Astrakhan region, in an early morning attack on Ukraine on Thursday.

Ukraine’s Air Force said on its Telegram account that it destroyed six Kh-101 cruise missiles using anti-aircraft combat.

The Russian attack hit critical infrastructure in the central-eastern city of Dnipro, according to the air force.

This comes after Ukraine fired American-supplied long-range missiles into Russia on Tuesday, marking the first time for Kyiv to do so in the 1,000 days of war – a move that was authorized by President Biden on Sunday.

There are currently no reports on injuries or fatalities.

If the attack did involve an ICBM, it would mark a major escalation in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and the first time such a weapon has been used.

Elon Musk shares Riley Gaines’ college swimming immigrant romance story with tragic vaccine mandate twist

The Vice President Kamala Harris open border looked like an easy gateway to international love, but the Biden COVID vaccine mandates put up a wall.

Former NCAA swimmer and conservative activist Riley Gaines shared the story of her marriage with fellow former University of Kentucky swimmer Louis Barker, who is originally from England, in a recent TikTok.

Barker and Gaines were both swimmers while in college. Gaines joined the University of Kentucky’s swim team and made the All-SEC freshman Team in 2019. She was also on the All-SEC Second Team in 2019 and 2020. Barker participated in the British Olympic Trials qualifier in 2016. Then in 2018, Barker participated in the 2018 Commonwealth Games Trials qualifier.

The two dated for two years, between 2019 and 2021. In December 2021, Barker proposed to Gaines, which she announced on social media. They were married in May 2022 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Now, Gaines, who has spoken out against illegal immigration and Vice President Harris for her poor handling of the border crisis, shared that her and her husband have been dealing with immigration issues themselves in recent years. Gaines says Barker, despite coming into the country legally, has not been able to attain citizenship or even a green card yet, despite the fact that the couple has been married for two years.

“Maybe you think you think he’s well on his way to the U.S. citizen, and you would be wrong. After two and a half years of marriage, he still doesn’t have his green card,” Gaines said.

Gaines says the couple received a letter in the mail. The reason Barker has not been granted citizenship is that he does not have the COVID-19 vaccine.

“Think about how hard our government has made it for people migrating into this country legally in comparison to those who break the law. Because if you just walk across the southern border, you’re given housing, a driver’s license, money.”

Elon Musk reposed Gaines’ TikTok video on X with a message advocating for legal immigration reform. Musk himself is also a legal immigrant from South Africa who has also spoken in favor of immigration reform in the U.S. Musk has also denied a Washington Post report that alleges the tech billionaire began his career working in the U.S. illegally.

“Legal immigration to America is ridiculously slow and difficult, even for super talented people. Needs to be fixed,” Musk wrote.

Musk moved to Canada at 18 and got citizenship there via his mother and, a few years later, studied at the University of Pennsylvania.

U.S. immigration law requires immigrant visa applicants to obtain certain vaccinations prior to the issuance of an immigrant visa. The COVID-19 vaccine was added to that list under the Biden-Harris administration.

Panel physicians who conduct medical examinations of immigrant visa applicants are required to verify that immigrant visa applicants have met the vaccination requirements, or that it is medically inappropriate for the visa applicant to receive one or more of the listed vaccinations.

Riley Gaines speaks at an event

However, none of this applies to people who sneak into the country illegally.

Gaines previously spoke out against illegal immigration in a social media spat with Mark Cuban.

After Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) released data to lawmakers in September revealing that tens of thousands of illegal immigrants with sex offenses and homicide convictions have crossed the border into the U.S. under the Biden-Harris administration, including 13,099 convicted of homicide and 15,811 of sexual assault, Gaines took aim at Cuban for suggesting Harris did a “good job” handling the border.

“We might have different standards for what qualifies as a ‘good job,’ but I don’t think the illegal entrance of 15,000+ rapists, 13,000+ murderers, and 320,000 missing children fits the bill,” Gaines on X in response to Cuban.

Gaines’ reference to the 320,000 missing children was from another report from the Department of Homeland Security released Aug. 21 that revealed the Biden-Harris administration had lost track of that number of migrant children who crossed the border without parents.

Meanwhile, ICE Boston announced on Wednesday the arrests of two illegal immigrants who have been charged with forcibly raping children in Massachusetts, as well as a third individual who was convicted of raping a child in Brazil, and was hiding in the U.S. after being caught and released at the U.S. border in 2022.

Trump administration picks’ families have 1 thing in common

As President-elect Donald Trump has aggressively set to work on building his new administration, some have noticed that many of those being selected as his closest advisors are parents with families well above the national average.

The current national average for a family in the U.S. is 1.94, which is below the minimum 2.1 required to replace the population. Meanwhile, some of Trump’s Cabinet members and advisers are well above the replacement level.

Trump is a father of five adult children. Though he has divorced two times, he is said to be a devoted grandfather to his 10 grandchildren, even reportedly spending the morning after election night golfing with his granddaughter, Kai Trump.

Trump family

Secretary of the Interior nominee Doug Burgum and Deputy Chief of Policy Stephen Miller each have three children. Trump’s picks for the CIA, John Ratcliffe, and Secretary of State pick Marco Rubio have four kids each. Though from several marriages, Health and Human Services nominee Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Department of Defense secretary nominee Pete Hegseth both have seven kids.

The grand prize goes to Sean Duffy, Trump’s pick for transportation secretary, who with wife Rachel Campos-Duffy has nine children. In 2019, Duffy stepped down from his role as a Wisconsin congressperson ahead of his ninth child’s birth to spend more time with his family.

“Raising a family is hard work,” he said in a social media post explaining his decision. “I have always been open to signs from God when it comes to balancing my desire to serve both my family and my country.”

Duffys

By comparison, with four children, President Biden is more of an exception in his administration, which is mainly staffed by people with two or fewer children.

During the campaign, Vice President-elect JD Vance voiced his belief that the government needs to place a greater emphasis on being “pro-family” and make it easier for Americans to have larger families and more kids.

At 40 years old, Vance and his wife, Usha, have three children, and he has voiced his desire to have more.

In his first big speech on the national stage at the Republican National Convention, Vance said “the American Dream that always counted most [to me] was not starting a business or becoming a senator or even being here with you fine people, it was becoming a good husband and a good dad and of giving my family the things I never had as a kid. And that’s the accomplishment I’m proudest of.”

JD and Usha Vance campaign in Pennsylvania

He was hit repeatedly by the Kamala Harris campaign and the media over his 2021 criticism of the country being run by who he called “childless cat ladies.” But the underlying problem of low birth rates in the U.S. poses an increasingly big worry to those paying attention.

Catherine Pakaluk, a social researcher and author, told Fox News Digital that the country’s low birth rate has gotten to a point where it is presenting real problems and dangers for the future.

“We Americans are not having enough children to replace the population,” she said. “What we’re seeing is an inversion of the normal population pyramid where we would think about the normal population pyramid would be a greater number of younger workers supporting a smaller number of older, retired workers.”

Though not yet at the level of countries like Japan and China, which are now facing shrinking populations, Pakaluk said the result is that there are “fewer and fewer workers,” fewer people paying into the tax base, and government programs such as social security and Medicare are becoming increasingly unviable.

Because of this reality, Pakaluk said she appreciates people like Vance pushing for larger families.

Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance arrives to vote

“I really value that Vice President-elect Vance is speaking positively about families and talking a lot about how much he would like to have a larger family. … I think a lot of what is very helpful to us today is to have role models talking about how having kids isn’t really all that bad and, in fact, might be better than you expected.”

Most crucial to Pakaluk, however, is advancing values that lead to people choosing to have bigger families. She recently published a book called “Hannah’s Children” in which she did extensive interviews with mothers who decided to have five or more kids. The common denominator among these women, who came from a wide array of faith backgrounds, was a strong religious belief in children as blessings from God.

This led Pakaluk to believe that the solution to what she calls the “birth dearth” is a return to religious convictions on the individual and societal level.

She pointed to Duffy, who is a practicing Catholic, as an example.

“What I like to say is, I don’t know that you can get more children out of being pro-child. … But I think you can get more children if you’re pro-church or pro-religious community,” she said. “If people encounter strong religious communities on a more regular basis, this can change in a generation.”

Comer to create DOGE subcommittee chaired by Marjorie Taylor Greene to work with Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy

EXCLUSIVE: House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer is expected to establish a subcommittee that will work with the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to eliminate government waste, Fox News Digital has learned.

A source familiar told Fox News Digital that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., will chair the Delivering on Government Efficiency Subcommittee, which will focus on rooting out waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government.

The subcommittee is expected to investigate wasteful spending, examine ways to reorganize federal agencies to improve efficiency and identify solutions to eliminate bureaucratic red tape.

A source familiar told Fox News Digital that Comer had a meeting with Ramaswamy and his incoming DOGE team.

Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy

The source said Ramaswamy is “supportive of the Oversight Committee’s endeavor and are already working together.”

Comer told Fox News Digital that President Trump’s “landslide victory reflects a clear mandate to address inflationary spending that’s driving up the cost of living for hardworking Americans.”

“Wasteful government spending must end, and taxpayers deserve to see their money used effectively and efficiently,” he said.

Comer told Fox News Digital that the new Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency “will align with the Trump administration’s priorities to eliminate government waste, streamline the federal government’s operations and cut red tape that’s stifling jobs and increasing costs for the American people.”

“I look forward to working with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to deliver on these goals to Make America Great Again,” Comer said.

Greene told Fox News Digital that the House Oversight Committee “is the perfect place to support the DOGE mission.”

“I’m excited to chair this new subcommittee designed to work hand in hand with President Trump, Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy and the entire DOGE team,” Greene said. “We will identify and investigate the waste, corruption and absolutely useless parts of our federal government.”

Greene said the subcommittee will provide “transparency and truth to the American people through hearings.”

“No topic will be off the table,” she said. “The goal of DOGE is to bring accountability and GUT useless government agencies.”

Greene said she expects the subcommittee’s work “will expose people who need to be fired.”

“The bureaucrats who don’t do their job, fail audits like in the Pentagon and don’t know where billions of dollars are going, will be getting a pink slip,” Greene said. “Chairman Comer and I are focused on delivering the mandate voters sent on Nov. 5th, and I can’t wait to get to work.”

President-elect Donald Trump pointing

Trump this month tapped Musk and Ramaswamy to lead DOGE, which Musk, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO, has widely touted. DOGE has already started soliciting civilian help in the agency.

Trump said last week he hopes DOGE will become the “Manhattan Project of our time,” in reference to J. Robert Oppenheimer’s secretive atom bomb endeavor during World War II.

“Republican politicians have dreamed about the objectives of DOGE for a very long time,” Trump said.

Senate rejects Bernie Sanders’ effort to block weapons sales to Israel

An effort by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., to block certain U.S. weapons sales to Israel was overwhelmingly rejected by the U.S. Senate Wednesday evening.

Sanders’ joint resolution of disapproval, which was supported by Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md.; Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore.; and Sen. Peter Welch, D-Vt., intended to stop the White House’s latest arms sales to the Israeli military. An effort to block the sales of tank rounds to Israel was voted down 79-18, and a measure intending to block mortar round shipments was rejected 78-19.

Speaking on the Senate floor, Sanders claimed the Israeli government is controlled “not only by right-wing extremists, but by religious zealots.”

“It is time to tell the Netanyahu government that they cannot use U.S. taxpayer dollars and American weapons in violation of U.S. and international law and our moral values despite receiving $18 billion from U.S. taxpayers in the last year,” Sanders said.

Sanders walking in hallway

“And being the largest historical recipient of U.S. foreign aid, the Netanyahu government has completely ignored the repeated requests of President Biden and the U.S. government.”

The 83-year-old politician also decried living conditions in Gaza during his speech.

“Right now, there is raw sewage running through the streets of Gaza, and it is very difficult for the people there to obtain clean drinking water,” Sanders said. “Every one of Gaza’s 12 universities has been bombed … as have many hundreds of schools. For 13 months, there has been no electricity in Gaza.

“As I have said many, many times, Israel had the absolute right to respond to that horrific Hamas attack as any other country would,” Sanders concluded. “I don’t think anybody here in the United States Senate disagrees with that. But Prime Minister Netanyahu’s extremist government has not simply waged war against Hamas. It has waged an all-out war against the Palestinian people.”

Despite the vote, Sanders’ effort was not wholly unpopular. Earlier this week, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., signaled support for the Vermont Independent’s proposal.

“The failure by the Biden administration to follow U.S. law and to suspend arms shipments is a grave mistake that undermines American credibility worldwide,” Warren said in a statement to The Guardian.

“If this administration will not act, Congress must step up to enforce U.S. law and hold the Netanyahu government accountable through a joint resolution of disapproval.”

Lori Chavez-DeRemer heading to Mar-a-Lago after being floated for Labor Secretary: sources

A House Republican whose name has been floated for Secretary of Labor is traveling to Mar-a-Lago at the end of this week, two sources told Fox News Digital.

Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer, R-Ore., who recently lost re-election in a close race against Democrat Janelle Bynum, is in consideration to lead the Labor Department, according to Politico.

Her travel down to President-elect Trump’s Florida home could mean that she is a serious contender for the role.

Chavez-DeRemer’s candidacy is backed by the Teamsters Union, who Trump allies had been trying to court earlier this year in their bid to broaden the Republican base ahead of the 2024 election.

She would be the fourth current House Republican selected for the new Trump administration after House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., and Reps. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., and Matt Gaetz, R-Fla.

But unlike the others, her elevation to Trump’s Cabinet would not take away from the GOP’s razor-thin House majority.

When reached by Fox News Digital, Chavez-DeRemer’s spokesperson did not comment directly on the congresswoman’s travel plans but shared her statement on the Teamsters’ endorsement for the role.

“I’d be honored to have the opportunity to support President Trump’s mission to empower and grow our nation’s workforce. Hardworking Americans finally have a lifeline with the president, and I’d work tirelessly to support his impressive efforts to remake the Republican Party into the Party of the American worker,” she said.

Multiple House Republican allies of hers have also lauded her as a potential Trump Cabinet pick on social media.

Rep. Max Miller, R-Ohio, a former Trump 2020 campaign staffer, wrote on X that she “would be a fantastic Labor Secretary.”

Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer leaving a meeting

Reps. Anthony D’Esposito, R-N.Y., and Pete Sauber, R-Minn., shared similar praise on the platform, among others.

“She is a champion for workers; she is a problem solver, and she is a no nonsense leader,” Rep. Marc Molinaro, who a source said is also being considered for a high-ranking role in the Department of Transportation, wrote on X.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Trump transition team for comment.

House Republicans grill HHS Secretary Becerra over migrant children: ‘Would not want to be you’

House Republicans grilled Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra on Wednesday over his agency’s failure to account for thousands of unaccounted migrant children and the process used to vet their sponsors amid concerns of exploitation and abuse.

Speaking before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement, Becerra testified about his department’s Refugee Resettlement Office, which is charged with caring for and placement of unaccompanied migrant children.

Republican subcommittee members accused the Biden administration of rushing migrant children out of HHS custody and into the hands of unvetted sponsors who sometimes exploit and abuse them while not conducting adequate background checks.

Becerra testified before Congress

“How can you say that the No. 1 priority is the safety of these unaccompanied children when you’re placing them in sponsors’ homes that occasionally have had criminal gang affiliations because there are no proper background checks?” Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., asked.

Becerra said his agency follows “child welfare best practices” that include “extensive” background checks.

“No sponsor would be allowed to take a child if we have information that shows that they are engaged in criminal activity,” he said.

Xavier Becerra is the 25th Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services

Lawmakers, however, said thousands of violent criminal illegal immigrants and unaccompanied migrant children have been released across the United States under the Biden administration’s watch.

They cited the murder of Laken Riley, a Georgia college student killed by an illegal immigrant, and the 2022 killing of Kayla Hamilton in Maryland by Walter Javier Martinez, who was in the country illegally from El Salvador.

Martinez was taken to the ORR as an unaccompanied child despite a previous arrest in his home country.

“One call to Salvadoran authorities would have confirmed this and an association with MS-13,” said subcommittee Chair Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Calif. “Instead, Martinez was released into our country with no questions asked. He has since admitted to four murders, two rapes and additional other crimes.”

Other cases include the killing of 11-year-old Maria Gonzalez, who was found by her father last year sexually assaulted and strangled in her home.

Her alleged killer, Juan Carlos Garcia-Rodriguez, illegally entered the U.S. from Guatemala in 2023, but was allowed to stay in the country via a sponsor in Louisiana.

Migrant kids standing

In the case of vetting unaccompanied children, the Department of Homeland Security performs that task, Becerra said. HHS vets potential sponsors once the child is in its care, he said.

“HHS’s custodial responsibility and overnight for unaccompanied children through ORR ends once we place the child with an appropriately vetted supervisor,” the secretary stated.

Rep. Wesley Hunt, R-Texas., noted that the Biden administration admitted more than 100,000 refugees in the past year alone, compared to 12,000 in 2020 under President-elect Trump.

“Under the Biden-Harris administration, Americans are left behind while the needs of ‘new’ Americans are pushed to the front of the line,” said Hunt. “Americans are sick and tired of being treated like second-class citizens in our own country.”

When asked what he would do differently after four years, Becerra failed to answer the question.

“Do you understand how this affects the lives of a population that you’ve placed that is approaching the size of the state of Wyoming?” asked McClintock. “Some of them: innocent, defenseless children. Others: gang members who are 17-years-old or pretending to be 17.”

“Mr. Secretary, when the history of this administration is written, I would not want to be you looking back at what historians say about your tenure,” he said before adjourning the hearing.

Actress boards plane with head lice, triggers social media firestorm: What to know

Instagram users appear to have questions and concerns after actress Jenny Mollen shared a video revealing her itchy head lice discovery while on an airplane.

Mollen, who appeared in the film “My Best Friend’s Girl” and is the wife of actor Jason Biggs, said she was mid-flight from Los Angeles to New York when she realized she had lice that was pointed out by a friend.

Her Instagram announcement, along with a follow-up post, was shared by Mollen late last month but has made recent headlines and prompted users to sound off.

“The people on that flight. Ugh… poor them,” one woman wrote under Mollen’s initial post.

Another user commented, “Itching…from here….”

“I hope you told the crew,” said another.

Mollen, who was seen with a plastic bag on her head in the video, said she had been scratching her head for two weeks.

In a more recent video, Mollen is seen getting lice removal treatment and clearing up the controversy about flying with lice.

“The airplane seat that’s a bummer for whoever sits there next,” Mollen said on Instagram, where she tagged the New York City-based lice removal company, Licenders.

She said, “I wanted to be clear, I did not know I had lice until I was on the airplane.”

One user commented, “You should be banned from flying.”

“The world in its oversharing era,” said another.

jenny mollen

“Calm down, People! It’s just lice,” one user commented on the video update.

Another said, “I hope you told the airline.”

Lice are parasitic insects found on people’s heads and bodies and can spread by close person-to-person contact that move by crawling and cannot hop or fly, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Airplane

Christine Bonanno is the owner of Fairy LiceMothers, a professional lice removal service that has been in business for more than 18 years with locations on Long Island in New York and in Austin, Texas.

Bonanno told Fox News Digital via email that the most common way to catch lice is through head-to-head contact.

“It is possible to catch lice while traveling on an airplane. You would not get it from the airplane seat itself, you would have to sit next to someone who actually has it,” said Bonanno.

Bonanno added, “the only place lice can live is on a human head… An adult bug will crawl from one head to another – you cannot catch an egg – only a bug.”

lice

She said the most effective way to treat lice is to comb out all the bugs, and it is very important to communicate with those you are around so they can be checked and treated.

“The hair acts as a bridge for lice to crawl from one head to another. So the less hair exposed the better. Hair tied back in a braid or bun helps,” said Bonanno.

Bonanno, who is a certified head lice removal clinician, said certain scents such as lavender, peppermint, coconut and tea tree oil could help repel the bugs.

Treatments at removal service companies like Fairy LiceMothers typically take between one and two hours but may take longer if it is done by someone themselves.

“We tell clients, ‘once a week take a peek,’ meaning check yourself for lice weekly, so even if you do get [lice] it will be manageable and easy to treat,” Bonanno said.

Outrage ensues in Rome over Airbnb’s gladiator ‘battles’ coming to Colosseum

The historic Roman Colosseum is facing backlash after partnering with Airbnb to bring gladiator “battles” back into the arena, and political figures in Italy are speaking out against the campaign.

“Now, for the first time in nearly 2,000 years, the Colosseum returns to its original purpose as a venue for performances, inviting daring warriors to step foot inside the historic arena to forge their own paths and shape their destinies,” Airbnb announced in a recent press release.

“Those brave enough to rise to the challenge will follow in the footsteps once traversed by victorious fighters, suit up in historically accurate armor, and put their skills to the test to determine their fate in battle.”

The Airbnb and Colosseum partnership is the result of a $1.5 million sponsorship, which will allow guests to submerge themselves in ancient times by engaging in combat with swords and shields on one of the two scheduled experience dates, May 7 and 8, with each experience lasting three hours and only allowing for 16 guests.

Colosseum in Rome, Italy

The announcement is linked to Ridley Scott’s upcoming “Gladiator II” film starring Denzel Washington and Paul Mescal.

The experience is not being welcomed graciously by city officials in Rome who fear the campaign is “trivializing” the historic site.

“Having taken possession of the historic centre of Rome, making it into a huge theme park, now they want to trivialise the Colosseum. Rome is not Disneyland,” Enzo Foschi, a city councillor from the centre-Left Democratic Party told the Telegraph in a recent interview.

Airbnb and Colosseum deal

A former member of the European Parliament also shared his concern for the deal on his social media.

“News of a gladiatorial show inside the #Colosseum leaves us perplexed to say the least. We understand the needs of the Superintendence to strengthen the meritorious work of conservation and restoration, however with this initiative, once again, a principle of commodification and consumption of culture is reaffirmed,” Massimiliano Smeriglio, the city councilor in charge of culture, wrote on Instagram.

“We cannot turn one of the most important monuments in the world into a theme park. For this reason I decided to write to the CEO of Airbnb and ask the Superintendence to confirm the allocation, giving up the tourist-gladiator show,” Smeriglio added.

He also said that he hopes the deal will come to an end, but that Airbnb will still donate the $1.5 million to the restoration of the Colosseum to show that the company is still “a friend of Rome, protecting its unique artistic heritage without transforming it into a theme park,” the Telegraph reported.

While some city officials have pubically shared their grievances, others have voiced their support for the partnership.

“We are absolutely in favor of the agreement between public and private in culture, through partnerships or sponsorships, provided that they support initiatives that are of scientific and cultural value approved by the ministry of culture,” Federico Mollicone, the head of a parliamentary culture commission and a member of Giorgia Meloni’s Brothers of Italy party, shared in a statement.

“In Europe, historical reenactments, including gladiatorial shows, are paid events held in arenas and Roman sites, entertaining thousands of people. In our case, they are even free, approved by the Superintendencies, and bring profitability to the monument. Historical reenactments represent an active policy of enhancing museum institutions and archaeological parks to encourage additional forms of tourism, while also contributing to education and scientific exploration.”

In spite of the public outrage, Alfonsina Russo, director of the Colosseum Archaeological Park, told Fox News Digital that the park supports the collaboration.

“Regarding the agreement with the travel platform Airbnb…the goal of the collaboration is to enhance the historical and cultural heritage of the Flavian Amphitheater through immersive activities that fully respect the monument, based on rigorous historical research,” Russo said in an emailed statement.

“The collaboration aims to combine conservation, education, and innovation to bring an ever-broader audience closer to the cultural richness of the Amphitheater,” he added.

Airbnb is making a commitment to protecting the heritage of the historical site.

“In partnership with the museum’s archaeological team and professional reenactment associations, this historical gladiator experience has been sensitively recreated by bringing to life the drama and awe of gladiator fights during the time of the Roman empire,” an Airbnb spokesperson told Fox News Digital via email.

“The partnership with the Colosseum is part of a broader commitment to promoting European heritage, which has seen Airbnb invest over $10 million in Europe over the past two years.”

The experience is said to not impact the site since the exhibitions will take place after hours and Aibnb noted that the event does not include an overnight stay on the premises.

The gladiator experience will officially begin accepting requests online on Nov. 27 and will close Dec. 9.

The few who are chosen will be in charge of their own travel to and from Rome, according to Airbnb.

Laken Riley’s murderer deserves the death penalty

Laken Riley died at the hands of a violent monster. Joe Biden and the open-borders industrial complex, including leftist sanctuary city policies, led her right into his hands. Among those policies is that of the feckless “Soros-style” Athens district attorney who entered office vowing never to seek the death penalty.

Jose Ibarra entered the United States illegally. He received taxpayer-funded flights. He got housing and protection from law enforcement upon arrival. But when he stalked and murdered an innocent nursing student on the campus of the University of Georgia – rather than eradicating the planet of this deranged depraved lunatic, the now-defeated District Attorney in Athens, Georgia has made sure taxpayers will fund his room and board for the rest of his life.

The monster who killed Laken Riley is off to serve the rest of his natural life in a Georgia prison. He was sentenced to two life sentences without parole and then some. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, illegal Venezuelan immigrant Jose Ibarra will never breathe free air again. But the question remains: why is he not facing the death penalty? Why would DA Gonzalez be so callous and indifferent to the memory of Laken Riley that she would not seek the ultimate punishment in one of the most heartbreaking murders in Georgia history?

After all, Georgia’s death penalty law provides for the death penalty in the worst of the worst murder cases, but only if the district attorney elects to pursue it.

To qualify for the death penalty for murder in Georgia there must exist special circumstances. The law says those circumstances are as follows:

  • Aggravating circumstances: The prosecutor must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that one of the following circumstances applied:The offender has a prior record of a capital felony convictionThe offender committed the crime while committing another capital felony or aggravated batteryThe offender committed the crime for financial gainThe offender created a great risk of death to multiple people in a public placeThe offender murdered a judicial officer, district attorney, or solicitor-general while they were exercising their official dutiesThe offender committed the crime as an agent of another personThe crime was outrageously or wantonly vile, horrible, or inhuman
  • The offender has a prior record of a capital felony conviction
  • The offender committed the crime while committing another capital felony or aggravated battery
  • The offender committed the crime for financial gain
  • The offender created a great risk of death to multiple people in a public place
  • The offender murdered a judicial officer, district attorney, or solicitor-general while they were exercising their official duties
  • The offender committed the crime as an agent of another person
  • The crime was outrageously or wantonly vile, horrible, or inhuman

Applying these factors, this case qualified for the death penalty in at least the following ways:

First, Ibarra committed his heinous deed while in the process committing the capital crime of “Kidnapping with Bodily injury.” Indeed, he was convicted of this offense in count 6 of the indictment.

Second, the crime was committed while Ibarra was committing the crime of aggravated battery which was count 8 of the indictment and for which he was found guilty.

Third, the murder of Laken Riley was without question “outrageously or wantonly vile, horrible or inhuman.” Ibarra went hunting for someone to rape. He found Laken Riley and when she fought her attacker for nearly 20 minutes, he smashed her head in with a rock and discarded her remains like she was a piece of common trash.

Despite the existence of these circumstances, District Attorney Gonzalez opted not to seek the death penalty in this case. In fact, she vowed never to seek the death penalty in any case, regardless of how terrible or awful the particulars of the crime might be. On her first day in office 4 years ago Gonzalez sent a memo announcing that she would not seek the death penalty no matter the circumstances, taking away the right of the jury to make that decision in the most heinous of cases. This unilateral decision not what Georgia lawmakers intended and it defies the will of the people.

This was not some ordinary robbery or drug deal gone bad. This crime was truly sick, vile, disgusting and unimaginably sad. This cold-blooded killer went hunting for someone to rape and she refused to be his victim. As the prosecutor said in opening statements, Laken Riley fought with him for almost 20 minutes. She fought for her life and she fought for her dignity. And then Ibarra bashed her repeatedly in the head with a rock, strangled her until blood vessels in her eyes burst open, tried to remove her clothing and left her lifeless body covered in debris. If ever there was anyone that deserved to forfeit their life, it is Jose Ibarra.

The message – to all “sanctuary cities” – and to all who would seek to come to America should be loud and clear: If you come here illegally and violently murder one of our daughters, you will pay with your life. This animal does not deserve 3 hots and a cot. Jose Ibarra is irredeemably morally depraved. He cannot be rehabilitated. Georgia deserves retribution and Laken Riley deserves substantially more justice than District Attorney Gonzalez allowed.

Morning Glory: Worried about the national debt?

0
#image_title

If Congress won’t slash the spending that constitutes low-hanging fruit – subsidies for National Public Radio, for example, or mandatory reductions-in-force across the vast federal government – there is no point in attempting to warn voters about the national debt. If Congress and the president don’t care about small stuff when it comes to controlling the national debt, why should voters believe the debt is a problem that warrants entitlement reform? If you won’t lose five pounds, should anyone believe you are going to shed 100?

Young people worry about the impacts of climate change – a lot. Of course they do. How could they not, given media and elementary and secondary school curricula? Some research suggests 60% or more of high school students will tell surveyors that they view climate change as “an existential threat.” Given how much time and attention is spent on cataclysmic rhetoric about climate change, it is surprising the number isn’t 95%

How about the national debt? Five years ago, Brooking Institute scholar Stuart Butler worried that very few Millennials cared about the national debt despite the projection that the national debt “is rising rapidly and will be close to 150% of GDP by 2050,” and that the total “would easily surpass the previous record during World War II.”

Butler – respected across the political spectrum – noted a “lot of frustration among economists and policymakers about the seeming unwillingness of young Americans to appreciate the enormous threat posed by deficits and debt.”

“Prophesying fiscal disaster and urging action is a challenging line of work these days,” he concluded.

It’s not going to get easier because the electorate does not care about the national debt. Not even young voters care, even though they are going to get stuck with the tab as the last tranche of Boomers bolt the workforce for retirement or eternity.

Voters under the age of 30 favored Vice President Harris by a few points in this month’s election, but in crucial states like Michigan it was a statistical tie. The gender gap that played out in 2024 was also present among young voters. The issues that mattered were very different among the young voters choosing Harris over Trump, but neither camp was concerned with the national debt.

The national debt of the United States is approximately $36 trillion dollars. The Peter G. Peterson Foundation keeps a steady eye on the total debt and on the interest cost of that debt, which is presently almost $2 billion a day, an interest-only slice of the federal budget which is expected to double over the next decade.

All of the presidents and all of the members of the House and the Senate of the past 75 years are responsible for spending the $36 trillion which we have collectively borrowed. But neither President-elect Trump nor his successor or their successor will be able to do much about the debt, even as it eats into the future prosperity of every American. Because the electorate simply shrugs off these numbers.

Because voters do not care about the debt, the debt won’t be addressed in the first or second budgets of the second Trump term or the laws that pass pursuant to the reconciliation process those budgets unlock. The debt will in all likelihood grow to more than 40 trillion before the 2026 elections have changed Congress again. That’s because President-elect Trump and the Senate and House will agree to extend and revise (and hopefully make permanent) the Trump tax cuts from 2018 and the productivity jolt that certainty about tax rates brings will take some years to show up in total tax receipts.

Debt doomsayers are everywhere and everywhere ignored. Reporters in the New York Times warned this week that “[b]udget experts have warned that his plans could add as much as $15 trillion to the national debt while increasing inflation and slowing growth.” Hard to know on what such predictions are based given that we don’t have any idea what the first budget will look like much less the second. But this story was a flare to the rest of legacy media that the left has decided that annual federal budget deficits and the total national debt matter again after President Biden’s four-year spending spree. There will be more coverage of the debt because with the GOP in control, legacy media will want to blame Trump and his allies on Capitol Hill. But will all the hand-wringing ahead result in the national debt registering as an issue among voters?

Nah. Not a chance.

Inflation mattered in the election – a lot. So did the “wrong direction” number as super-majorities of Americans concluded Bidenomics was a disaster. Stagflation was the undoing of President Jimmy Carter in the 1980 election and it was the undoing of Vice President Harris on November 5. Americans want the economy to boom, not contract or slink along. Trump’s tax cuts being made permanent could unleash productivity again.

But don’t expect spending cuts that matter or new revenue streams from any source unless and until there are at least gestures made by the Congress about cutting the cost of the federal government. Don’t blame the public for its indifference to alarms over the debt when Congress is still pulsing grants through the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities. If the Congress cannot be serious about obvious cuts of agencies and subsidies that ought never to have been begun, don’t expect it to bring an axe to entitlements or to trot out new tax proposals.

If the debt alarms you, figure out a way to express the risk it poses to future generations the way that climate alarmists have persuaded Millennials, Generation Z and Generation Aloha that the future is dark because the planet is going to cook. Young voters worry about getting jobs and buying first houses or about the climate and abortion rights. Don’t expect them, much less the beneficiaries of entitlements, to demand fiscal responsibility unless and until Congress at least makes a show of shaving off the obvious fat.

ANDREW McCARTHY: Trump’s incoming border czar issues a warning sanctuary cities ignore at their own peril

0
#image_title
In a recent television interview, prospective Trump administration border “czar” Tom Homan said that state officials will be liable to federal prosecution if they actively impede federal agents in the enforcement of immigration law — including apprehending and detaining illegal aliens.

In context, Homan was being asked about Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, who has vowed that the city would protect non-citizens in “every possible way” from the Trump administration’s plans for large-scale deportations.

Homan made clear that the feds would not attempt to commandeer state and city officials. He acknowledged that such officials have no duty to help federal immigration agents. But they may not interfere with the agents in the execution of their duties or take affirmative steps to conceal or shield illegal immigrants from federal law enforcement.

Homan is right about this.

He pointed out that it is a federal felony under Section 1324(1)(a)(iii) of the immigration laws (Title 8, U.S. Code) if a person,

knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that an alien has come to, entered, or remains in the United States in violation of law, conceals, harbors, or shields from detection, or attempts to conceal, harbor, or shield from detection, such alien in any place, including any building or any means of transportation[.]

The Supreme Court has explained, in United States v. Gillock (1980), for example, that “in those areas where the Constitution grants the Federal Government the power to act, the Supremacy Clause dictates that federal enactments will prevail over competing state exercises of power.” As a result, state or municipal officials who are accused of violating federal criminal law will not be heard to claim in their defense that they were carrying out official state policies — even if those policies are codified in laws, regulations, or ordinances at the state or local levels.

Sanctuary cities have been tolerated for too long because Democrats — at the federal, state, and local levels — refuse to enforce federal law. But sanctuary cities have never been legal.

Tom Homan at a microphone

The Supreme Court has now held a number of times, including in Arizona v. United States (2015), that “the Government of the United States has broad, undoubted power over the subject of immigration and the status of aliens.” In Arizona vs. the United States, the Court went so far as to forbid the state from enforcing state laws that were designed to support federal immigration laws that the Obama-Biden administration did not want enforced.

Let’s face it: We know from past experience (in the last Trump administration) that, inevitably, open-borders advocate organizations will forum-shop cases to activist progressive judges who will surely rule in their favor. But such setbacks will be temporary.

Ultimately, higher federal courts, including the Supreme Court, are not going to countenance the actions of state and city officials that violate federal immigration law and obstruct federal enforcement of incontestably constitutional immigration laws.

In essence, I hear Tom Homan saying that the era of sanctuary cities is over. I hope that is true.

If it is, many illegal aliens will return to their home countries — that is, they will self-deport. This would free up resources for federal immigration agents to prioritize apprehension and deportation of criminal aliens — especially the ones in such gangs as Tren de Aragua, which has become a significant violent crime threat in big cities across the country thanks to the collapse of border security under Biden-Harris administration policies. Federal authorities can also then concentrate on the magnets of illegal immigration — such as employers who hire illegal aliens because they are willing to work for lower wages than the law mandates that Americans must be paid.

Getting illegal immigration and border security under control would be a boon for legal immigration. That’s something those who champion immigrants and those who prioritize pro-border security should be able to unite behind.

How President Trump Can Protect Women’s Sports on Day One

0
#image_title

The Biden-Harris administration has done more damage to women’s sports and privacy than you realize. On Day 1, President Joe Biden signed an executive order directing the entire government to infuse gender ideology throughout the nation. “Children should be able to learn without worrying about whether they will be denied access to the restroom, the locker room, or school sports,” he said, which, translated into regular English, means “Boys, including 18-year-old seniors, must access girls’ locker rooms and sports, if it agrees with their internal sense of self.”

He directed every agency to implement regulations to carry out this policy, and they did. Today, schools cannot even qualify for school lunch money unless they implement radical policies that treat men as women, including in the locker room. (This is all illegal, obviously, and court challenges have blunted the effect in some states.)

Unwinding will take some time, and President-elect Donald Trump has committed himself to it. He vowed his administration would use Title IX to prohibit men from participating in women’s sports. That’s a good start. I was an attorney for the first Trump White House. I have traveled the country with Paula Scanlan, who was forced to strip before Lia Thomas 18 times per week. I got to know Payton McNabb who was partially paralyzed by a man spiking a ball at her head. Here’s my take on what can and should be done immediately.

Announce a high-profile Title IX investigation, like of San Jose State University, and follow through to rescind their federal dollars

During Trump’s first administration, the Department of Justice found that a Connecticut policy permitting men in women’s sports cuts against Title IX’s core purpose, to ensure women have an equal opportunity to participate in educational programs, including sports.

Nevada Wolf Pack women's volleyball players with Sam Brown and Tulsi Gabbard.

That was correct, which multiple courts have now agreed with when enjoining Biden’s Title IX rewrite (which requires schools to allow men in women’s locker rooms). The Supreme Court has indicated it unanimously agrees Title IX cannot sustain a gender ideology mandate.

The Department of Education Office of Civil Rights should immediately announce an investigation into a school that fails to protect women’s sports, like San Jose State University, which continues to permit a male to take the roster spot of women, endanger women during practices and matches and silence women from speaking out. SJSU is only one option. Several schools in New Hampshire, for example, are directly violating their state law that protects women’s sports, claiming Biden’s illegal Title IX rewrite gives them cover.

Rescind all guidance that illegally represents that Title IX covers gender identity

Title IX is a 1972 law designed to stop schools from discriminating against women — discrimination that included offering them zero athletic opportunities, except occasionally field hockey. The Biden-Harris administration seemed to miss that memo, and says Title IX prohibits discrimination on the basis of “gender identity,” in document after document. That argument is illegal. The Department of Education has absolutely no statutory authority to impose a gender ideology mandate on our nation’s female athletes. Delete all this guidance.

Go beyond reversing Biden’s Title IX regulation and enact a regulation that protects women’s sports

My ideal end solution is to get the federal government out of the school business and return it to the states. But that’s going to take a while. In the meantime, a new Title IX regulation should explicitly protect women’s sports.

The longstanding regulation says that schools “shall provide equal athletic opportunity for members of both sexes.” As if that needed clarification, Trump’s Department of Education should add that equal opportunity requires a reasonable number of female-only teams and private spaces (which is how the statute has been understood for decades). And as if that needed clarification, the regulation should define female to mean an individual belonging to the sex that has the reproductive role of producing ova.

Whack the NCAA

The NCAA is a multi-billion-dollar organization that strips women of opportunities by permitting post-pubescent males in the female category. Before supporting any NCAA wish list items, which might include name-image-likeness (NIL) legislation, an exemption from Title IX for NIL payments (which go predominantly to men), or breathing room from antitrust investigation, the NCAA should comply with Title IX’s purpose of protecting women’s sports.

Ask for review of three women’s sports cases pending before the Supreme Court

Three states (Idaho, West Virginia and Arizona) are currently unable to protect women’s sports due to rogue court interpretations that the 14th Amendment and Title IX require men in women’s sports. Ask the Supreme Court to review and overturn these unhinged decisions.
