A great-grandfather of 10 who used a wheelchair and his son with cerebral palsy died in the raging wildfires in Southern California, their family said Thursday.
Retired salesman Anthony Mitchell, a 67-year-old amputee, and his bedridden son Justin, who is in his 20s, died when the Eaton Fire hit Altadena Wednesday, his daughter Hajime White told the Washington Post.
Mitchell had called White, who lives in Arkansas, Wednesday morning to let her know they were evacuating their home.
“He said, ‘Baby, I’m just letting you know the fire’s broken out, and we’re going to have to evacuate,” she recalled.
“Then he said, ‘I’ve gotta go — the fire’s in the yard.’”
A few hours later, she learned her father and brother were killed when the blaze tore through the region.
“It’s like a ton of bricks just fell on me,” she told WaPo.
Mitchell — who “had nicknames for everybody — had four children, 11 grandchildren and 10 great-children, White said.
At least seven people have been confirmed dead with the death toll expected to rise, officials warned.
R. Nicholas Burns, the top U.S. diplomat in Beijing, says the Biden administration is making a final push to urge China to reconsider its tilt toward Russia, Iran and North Korea.
The United States ambassador to China, R. Nicholas Burns, said the Biden administration is making a last push to try to persuade China to stop transferring equipment to Russia for the war in Ukraine.
Mr. Burns, in an interview at the U.S. embassy in Beijing, asserted that nearly 400 Chinese companies have supplied Russia with so-called dual use products, those with both military and commercial applications. He also said China has supplied 90 percent of the microelectronics used in the Russian war effort.
With less than two weeks remaining before President-elect Donald J. Trump takes office, Mr. Burns is raising the administration’s concerns about Russia, as well as China’s alignment with Iran and North Korea, with Chinese ministers in a series of meetings this week and early next week. He leaves the country this coming Tuesday.
More broadly, Mr. Burns said that China’s policies toward Russia, Iran and North Korea were inconsistent with Beijing’s desire to play a leading role in international initiatives of global order, like the World Trade Organization and the Paris agreement on climate change.
“Their actions are disruptive because they’re aligning themselves with the most unreliable agents of disorder in the international system,” he said. “So the Chinese can’t have it both ways; they’ve got to make a decision here.”
He also said that China, which buys huge quantities of oil from Iran, should use its influence to insist that Iran stop the Tehran-backed Houthi militia from attacking commercial shipping in the Red Sea.
Rocci Stucci on Authenticity, Society, and Compassion: Lessons We Can All Learn
The world today is full of noise—social media debates, political posturing, and the commercialization of nearly every experience. When there’s so much to sift through, Rocci Stucci stands apart by bringing raw, unfiltered truth to the table. With a mix of personal vulnerability and cultural critique, Stucci’s podcast and content offer insights that resonate deeply for many who feel lost in the chaos of modern life.
Here are the key takeaways from Rocci Stucci’s unique perspective on compassion, society, and authenticity—important messages we could all benefit from in today’s world.
1. The Superficial Mask of Compassion in Modern Society
One of Rocci Stucci’s recurring themes is his critique of performative compassion. In an era where offering a “thoughts and prayers” post on Instagram has become the go-to reaction to tragedy, Stucci argues that this type of superficial support does more harm than good. It creates the illusion of action while failing to yield real, meaningful solutions.
Instead, Stucci encourages individuals to focus on genuine, human interactions. Real compassion isn’t just about saying the right things—it’s about doing the right things, even when no one’s watching. From reaching out to help a friend in need to volunteering in underserved communities, Stucci’s message is clear: compassion isn’t about visibility, it’s about impact.
2. Turning Tragedy Into Marketing: A Societal Issue
Stucci often critiques how tragedies are used as marketing opportunities by corporations, influencers, and politicians. He believes this incorrect prioritization shifts the focus from real healing to profit-generation or public image enhancement.
This isn’t to say that people shouldn’t try to raise awareness for certain causes—Stucci actually supports those endeavors when they’re done with integrity. However, he calls for accountability, pointing out how some high-profile figures take advantage of emotional moments for personal gain. Society, he argues, needs a stronger filter to distinguish between authentic efforts and masquerading opportunism.
3. Lessons from Personal Loss and Vulnerability
Stucci isn’t shy about expressing vulnerability and sharing his own struggles. Whether it’s dealing with the loss of loved ones or facing personal challenges in his journey of growth, his storytelling frequently centers on resilience and introspection.
These stories teach listeners a powerful lesson: pain is inevitable, but it doesn’t have to define you. His personal anecdotes serve as a reminder to continue moving forward, even through life’s darkest and most uncertain times. Moreover, by speaking openly about his own experiences, Stucci normalizes the conversation around emotional resilience and healing—a topic society often avoids.
4. The Importance of Authenticity in Communication
A cornerstone of Rocci Stucci’s philosophy is authenticity. He pulls no punches in critiquing the polished personas of politicians, celebrities, and influencers, arguing that their version of success isn’t relatable or sustainable for the average person. Instead, he encourages people to embrace their imperfections, prioritize real communication, and stop chasing the unrealistic ideals often propagated in media.
Stucci focuses on empowering his audience to live unapologetically, staying true to their values despite the noise of societal expectations.
5. Solutions Over Complaints: Building a Better Society
While Stucci critiques many aspects of society, he’s just as quick to offer solutions. He urges individuals to engage in their local communities, challenge hypocritical systems and ideologies, and, most importantly, take ownership of their actions. Change, Stucci argues, starts with personal accountability, and small acts done consistently can lead to a profound ripple effect.
With practical advice woven into his storytelling, Stucci goes beyond simple commentary and offers a roadmap for those interested in contributing to a better, more compassionate society.
Final Thoughts: Why Rocci Stucci’s Voice Matters
In a world dominated by fleeting trends and shallow connections, Rocci Stucci’s raw honesty strikes a meaningful chord. He reminds us of the importance of compassion, grounded action, and authenticity—traits that seem to be forgotten in the age of cancel culture and instant gratification.
If you’re looking for a source of inspiration, a call to action, or simply a fresh perspective on the challenges we navigate daily, Rocci Stucci’s approach is worth exploring. At its core, his message is simple: living authentically with compassion can lead to a more fulfilling life for you and a better society for everyone.

Millions of new cases of diabetes and heart disease every year are caused by sugary drinks, according to newly published research.
Tufts University in Boston led the study, which found that about 2.2 million new diagnoses of type 2 diabetes and 1.2 million new cases of cardiovascular disease were attributed to sugar-sweetened sodas and juices each year, according to a press release.
The findings were published in the journal Nature Medicine this week.
The highest rates were found in Colombia, where 48% of new diabetes cases were linked to sugary drinks, and in Mexico, where nearly a third of cases were attributed to them.
Meanwhile, in Latin America, more than 24% of new diabetes cases were linked to sugary beverages, and 21% in sub-Saharan Africa, the study found.
In South Africa, 27.6% of new diabetes cases and 14.6% of cardiovascular disease cases were attributed to sugary drinks.
Sugary drinks are rapidly digested, causing a spike in blood sugar levels with little nutritional value.
Sugary drinks cause blood sugar to spike because they are “rapidly digested,” the research team said.
When consumed on a long-term basis, these types of beverages, in addition to increasing the risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease, can also lead to weight gain and insulin resistance, the researchers added.
Professor Dariush Mozaffarian, the study’s senior author, said in a university press release, “Sugar-sweetened beverages are heavily marketed and sold in low- and middle-income nations.”
He added, “Not only are these communities consuming harmful products, but they are also often less well-equipped to deal with the long-term health consequences.”
Certain groups are more likely to experience negative health effects from sugary drinks, including men and younger adults, the researchers noted, as news agency SWNS also noted.
New Jersey-based registered dietitian Erin Palinski-Wade, who was not involved in the research, said the findings were to be expected, as diets rich in added sugars are more likely to increase the risk of chronic health conditions, including type 2 diabetes.
“Sugar-sweetened beverages are a major cause of added sugar in the diet and easy to overconsume, as they provide little fullness,” she told Fox News Digital.
“The high calorie content and lack of satisfaction due to little protein, fat or fiber in these drinks can lead to excess calorie consumption, which can lead to weight gain — especially gains in visceral fat (belly fat), which has been found to increase the risk of type 2 diabetes,” she went on.
“Sugar-sweetened beverages are easy to overconsume, as they provide little fullness.”
Palinski-Wade pointed out that there were some limitations to the new research.
“This was an observational study, not a causation study, and shows only an association between diets containing sugar-sweetened beverages and diabetes,” she noted.
“It does not prove that those drinks alone trigger an onset of type 2 diabetes.”
To remedy the issue, the study authors called for a “multi-pronged approach,” including public health campaigns, regulations on advertising and taxes on sugar-sweetened beverages, the release stated.
“We need urgent, evidence-based interventions to curb consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages globally, before even more lives are shortened by their effects on diabetes and heart disease,” first author Laura Lara-Castor, now at the University of Washington, said in the release.
Mexico implemented a sugary drinks tax in 2014, which has shown to be effective in reducing consumption, the researchers stated.
“Much more needs to be done, especially in countries in Latin America and Africa, where consumption is high and the health consequences severe,” wrote Mozaffarian.
While travelers tend to factor in the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) restrictions while packing their bags, some might forget or even try to sneak items slip through the airport screening process.
TSA shared a video and press release showcasing some of the “best catches” confiscated over the last year.
A TSA spokesperson stated that the content “is a great illustration of the kinds of prohibited items.”
“They also represent the kinds of items that cause delays in checkpoints,” said the spokesperson.
At Newark International Airport, a Mississippi man was arrested by police after attempting to fly with a disassembled 9mm firearm hidden in a Lego box, according to TSA officials.
The gun frame was found in the bottom of a boot underneath a stuffed sock in an attempt to conceal it.
“The gun’s slide, spring and gun magazine loaded with 12 bullets were detected mixed among the plastic pieces of a Black Panther LEGO set,” said the release.
In North Carolina, agents at the Asheville Regional Airport uncovered marijuana stashed inside a peanut butter container, TSA announced on Instagram on March 1.
And in February, at Chicago Midway International Airport, a passenger tried to hide a vape pen inside a tube of toothpaste.
TSA shared the find on their Instagram page, captioning the post, “9 out of 10 dentists do not recommend.”
“Seems like they wanted to add a dash of minty-coolness to their traveling experience. What do we think? Attempting to conceal items is a sure way to get yourself in a paste-y situation,” the post read.
In November, a passenger flying out of William B. Hobby International Airport in Houston had a gun stashed in the back pocket of a baby stroller.
“Houston Airport, we definitely have a problem…” TSA wrote on Instagram.
TSA at Miami International Airport witnessed a bizarre occurrence in late April when a man tried to sneak live snakes through security by hiding them in his pants.
“Transportation Security Officers at airport checkpoints are really good at stopping [prohibited items] from entering the secure side of airports and in the passenger cabins of commercial airplanes,” said the TSA spokesperson.
TSA’s tips for getting through security checkpoints
No firearms in carry-ons
Firearms must be in checked baggage and “properly packed and declared to the airline at check-in, which means unloaded and in a locked, hard-sided case.”
Leave all prohibited items at home
Passengers can check the “What Can I Bring?” link on TSA’s website if they are unsure.
Prepare for the security checkpoint
Flyers shouldhave a valid ID card readily available with electronics such as a phone out of pockets and placed in bins.
Travelers should follow the “3-1-1 rule of 3.4 ounces or less for each item and the items should be placed in a one-quart-sized bag, one bag per passenger.”
Passengers can also enroll in “TSA PreCheck,” which speeds up screenings for eligible flyers at participating airports.
‘Help is available’
Flyers can get live assistance by reaching out to TSA social media accounts or calling the TSA contact center at 866-289-9673.
Democratic lawmakers are claiming the severity of the Los Angeles wildfires was a result of climate change, despite reports that the city’s fire hydrants ran out of water and the fire department’s budget was slashed just weeks before the Palisades fire destroyed thousands of homes and burned more than 15,000 acres.
Several fires broke out across the Southern California mountains in early January, quickly spreading to coastal residential areas and destroying more than 10,000 homes and structures.
As the fires gained national attention, Democratic lawmakers across the country began to claim it was climate change rather than state policies that caused the disastrous fire damage.
“And what has happened is that climate change has dried out our foliage, our flora. And coupled with these massive winds, these 50 to 100 miles an hour winds that happen every year around this time, a little ember can turn into a massive fire,” Rep. Dave Min, D-Calif., who represents a district not far from the raging fires, told NewsNation’s “The Hill Sunday.”
“Climate change has wreaked havoc on us,” Min said.
After the fires engulfed the Los Angeles mountains, it was reported that local fire hydrants were not producing water and that the firefighter funding had recently been cut by millions.
Gov. Gavin Newsom acknowledged these reports, and demanded an independent investigation be conducted into the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) regarding the lack of water in the middle of the crisis, but Democratic lawmakers shifted the blame away from state leaders.
“The scale of damage and loss is unimaginable. Climate change is real, not ‘a hoax.’ Donald Trump must treat this like the existential crisis it is,” Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., said in a social media post on Wednesday morning.
Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, said that the state leaders who don’t acknowledge climate change as a crisis, who are commonly Republican, are at fault.
“I’m so heartbroken at the devastation that’s continuously inflicted upon our country & the world & elected ‘leaders’ are ignorant, impotent, or just incompetent to doing the smart thing, which is to acknowledge that climate change is real & start to solve it,” Crockett wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Jan. 8.
Another Democratic lawmaker, Gov. Jay Inslee of Washington, said in January that he was “glad to be working with Gov. Newsom and helping CA, ravaged repeatedly by the effects of climate change.”
Months before the fires broke out, Los Angeles city officials cut the fire department budget by $17.6 million, while hundreds of thousands of dollars were being allocated to fund diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs in the state.
Celebrities immediately began pointing fingers at city leadership for investing in programs such as a “syringe exchange” program that gives sterile syringes to homeless drug addicts, instead of more funding for fire prevention efforts.
“We pay the highest taxes in California. Our fire hydrants were empty. Our vegetation was overgrown, brush not cleared. Our reservoirs were emptied by our governor because tribal leaders wanted to save fish. Our fire department budget was cut by our mayor. But thank god drug addicts are getting their drug kits,” actress Sara Foster wrote in a post on X.
On the same platform, Khloé Kardashian called out the city’s Democratic mayor, writing, “Mayor Bass you are a joke!!!!”
Rick Caruso, founder of a real estate company and former Los Angeles mayoral candidate, suggested that forest management could have mitigated the fires.
“We knew the winds were coming. We knew that there was brush that needed to be cleared 20 years ago,” Caruso, founder of a real estate company and former Los Angeles mayoral candidate, told the LA Times. “This fire could have been mitigated — maybe not prevented.”
Our high school volleyball career ended abruptly with a choice we never should have been forced to make: Forfeit the last game of our season — and the chance to compete for state title — or play against a male athlete.
On the one hand, the decision was easy. We are Christians attending a Christian school, and it should come as no surprise that we believe Genesis 1 is true — that God created male and female, that you can’t change your sex, and that to compete against a male who identifies as female would send a message that contradicts what we believe. A lot of people believe a person can simply change their sex by saying so, but the Bible tells us to “not be conformed to this world.”
On the other hand, it was devastating. We are both seniors, and forfeiting that game meant our entire volleyball career — all the hard work and sacrifices — that we had put in to get to the semifinals came to a screeching halt without proper closure. We never had the opportunity to celebrate playing the last game of a sport we love or to compete for a state title, an award Stone Ridge Christian School’s girls’ volleyball team has won twice in recent years.
We volleyball players, along with the administration and staff of our school in Merced, California, made the difficult decision to forgo participating in that November game against San Francisco Waldorf School.
No girl should be forced to choose between competing against a male athlete or not competing at all. No girl should lose athletic opportunities for standing up for biological reality and truth. Every athlete has the right to compete while adhering to her religious beliefs.
The California Interscholastic Federation has publicly said that our school may be subject to sanctions for our commonsense stand. So, Stone Ridge has retained Alliance Defending Freedom, which stands ready and able to defend the school should the government follow through with its threats of punishment.
Although we are the first Christian school in the state to choose to stand up for our beliefs in this way, college volleyball players at public universities who likewise have a lot to lose are bravely standing for truth, fairness and safety. Five teams have now forfeited seven matches against nearby San Jose State University, which allows a male athlete to compete on its women’s volleyball team.
It’s not realistic to think girls and boys can compete fairly or safely against each other. The differences between men’s and women’s volleyball are so great, they’re practically like two different sports. For starters, the net is seven inches taller in men’s volleyball, and the playing style is completely different.
Girls’ volleyball is very strategic. We watch films, come up with a plan, and think about every move. There’s no greater feeling than seeing all your training pay off when your team earns a hard-fought win. We communicate; we’re defensive.
But it’s quite different for guys — it’s more about power. They use their strength to smack the ball to the other side; they just react. They jump effortlessly, and half of their body is over the net, spiking the ball hard. Forget about trying to block them.
We may never have the opportunity to put on our pads and hit the court again, which is really hard for us. But this is so much bigger than just a game or even a state title.
No girl should be forced to choose between competing against a male athlete or not competing at all. No girl should lose athletic opportunities for standing up for biological reality and truth.
We’re taking this stand on behalf of all the young girls who want to play sports someday. Defending the truth that boys and girls are inherently different, and that each deserve their own, separate sports teams and locker rooms, is worth it.
As long as California’s athletic policies allow boys to compete against girls — taking their roster spots and trophies and forcing them to unfairly forfeit critical games — other girls will face this issue. Christian schools like Stone Ridge have the fundamental right to protect their students’ well-being and stand firm in their religious beliefs.

“Lone actors” pose the greatest threat to safety during the upcoming presidential inauguration events, according to U.S. Capitol Police Chief J. Thomas Manger.
He referenced two incidents last week on Capitol Hill where people sought to “disrupt” congressional proceedings with potentially violent tactics.
An estimated 250,000 ticketed guests will attend the formal inauguration on Jan. 20, according to law enforcement.
That will be supplemented by another 25,000, who law enforcement expect will attend various demonstrations going on around the Capitol on Inauguration Day. The inauguration and its accompanying events have been designated a “National Special Security Event,” the highest federal protective status an event can receive, authorities said.
“The biggest threat, I think, for all of us remains the lone actor,” Manger said Monday. “Just in the past week, while President Carter was lying in state, we had two lone actors show up at the Capitol: one trying to bring in knives and a machete; another one who was trying – what I believe – to disrupt the proceedings by setting their car on fire down in the peace circle area.”
“Capitol police were able to interdict these folks before they had a chance to do any harm. But that threat of the lone actor remains the biggest justification for us being at this heightened state of alert throughout the next week.”
Manger’s remarks came during a Monday press conference with federal and local law enforcement officials, including leaders from the Metropolitan Police Department, the Secret Service, the FBI and the U.S. Capitol Police, during which they discussed their preparation for the inauguration.
Representing the FBI was the assistant director in charge of the agency’s Washington field office, David Sundberg, who said the FBI was “not currently tracking any specific or credible threats to the inaugural ceremony or to the Capitol complex.”
The upcoming week of events will be secured similarly to the two high-profile National Special Security Events from last week, the presidential election certification and the late President Jimmy Carter’s funeral, authorities indicated. However, the inauguration will get a little extra support from roughly 4,000 local law enforcement officers who have volunteered to help and an estimated 7,800 National Guard soldiers who will deploy to the nation’s capital. In total, according to the Secret Service’s special agent in charge of the agency’s Washington field office, Matt McCool, a total of about 25,000 law enforcement officers will be on duty.
The inauguration will get extra concrete barriers and more than 30 miles of anti-scale fencing, which is more than has been used for any National Special Security Event in the past.
Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela A. Smith said that the district is expecting to see 12 different First Amendment demonstrations during the inauguration. Smith said that while the “MPD will ensure your right to peacefully protest,” they “will not tolerate any violence.”
“I want to reiterate – as I always have – that violence, destruction and unlawful behavior will not be tolerated,” Smith said Monday. “Offenders will face swift and decisive consequences.”
When asked by a reporter what the biggest difference was between this inauguration and the last in 2021, McCool said there is a “slightly more robust security plan.”
“We’ve learned,” McCool said. “This is our fifth NSSE this year in the Washington field office. We’ve done 83 NSSEs, each one we take a look at, and if there’s areas where we need to improve, we do it. But what I can tell you is that we are 100% confident in the plan that we have put in place for this inauguration that the public and our protectees will be safe.”
In a recent discussion, Richard Leonard takes an in-depth look at the confirmation hearing of Pete Hegseth for the role of Secretary of Defense. During this conversation, he examines the numerous accusations made against Hegseth, considering their validity and the broader context in which they have emerged. Stucci emphasizes how these allegations tie into larger questions about the expectations and standards for individuals in leadership roles within the military. Furthermore, he delves into how these issues intersect with political narratives that often shape public perceptions of such appointments. This analysis highlights the tension between personal military experience and the ability to effectively lead within a political framework.
The conversation also sheds light on the complex relationship between military qualifications and political leadership, exploring how individuals like Hegseth are scrutinized not only for their professional background but also for their alignment with current political ideologies. By addressing the challenges surrounding Hegseth’s confirmation, Stucci underscores the implications for both the military’s reputation and the political processes that influence its leadership. Ultimately, this discussion focuses on the critical takeaways from the hearing, offering insight into how military service and political responsibilities intersect in a way that impacts the larger narrative surrounding defense leadership. Through this thorough exploration, Stucci brings attention to the ongoing debate about the balance between military experience, personal conduct, and political considerations in leadership appointments.
Political Biases in Confirmation Hearings
The confirmation hearing for Pete Hegseth revealed notable examples of significant political biases that can profoundly influence the vetting process for individuals nominated to high-ranking positions within the government. Throughout the hearing, accusations against Hegseth were closely examined and ultimately found to be largely unsubstantiated, raising concerns about the motivations driving such criticisms. Many of these allegations appeared to be politically motivated, which highlights a growing pattern in modern politics where personal ideologies and partisan agendas take precedence over objective and factual assessments. This trend reflects a broader issue where the integrity of the vetting process is at risk, as legitimate evaluation is often overshadowed by attempts to advance political narratives or discredit nominees on tenuous grounds. Such developments bring into focus the challenges of ensuring fairness and transparency in the decision-making process for leadership appointments, emphasizing the need to separate political interests from the evaluation of an individual’s qualifications or suitability for a role.
Standards for Military Roles
A prominent theme in the discussion focused on the standards applied to military roles, with particular attention given to the topic of women in combat positions and how these roles are evaluated. It was strongly emphasized that the established standards, which are designed to ensure peak operational effectiveness, should not be lowered or compromised for any gender. The argument highlighted the critical nature of maintaining rigorous and objective criteria in the military, as these criteria directly impact the safety, efficiency, and overall success of missions. Equal expectations for all service members, regardless of gender, are essential to preserving fairness and readiness in the military structure.
Additionally, the conversation shed light on the importance of personal combat experiences and how they shape individuals’ perspectives on gender dynamics within the armed forces. Firsthand insights often underscore the challenges and demands of combat, reinforcing why equality in performance standards is essential. It was further argued that ensuring all candidates meet the same high standards not only prevents any perception of preferential treatment but also ensures that the effectiveness, cohesion, and trust within units remain intact. In sum, the discussion highlighted why such rigorous standards are vital to maintaining the integrity and success of military operations, especially concerning the inclusion of women in combat roles.
Emotional Dynamics in Combat
The conversation also delved into the complex and often intense emotional responses that individuals experience during combat situations, highlighting how such reactions can significantly complicate the decision-making process in high-stress environments. Combat is inherently unpredictable and emotionally charged, often pushing individuals to their limits and testing their ability to remain focused and composed in life-or-death scenarios. These emotional dynamics, such as fear, stress, adrenaline, and even empathy, can influence split-second decisions that carry serious consequences not only for the individual but also for their unit and the mission as a whole.
Understanding these psychological and emotional responses is not just important for those who serve on the front lines but is absolutely essential for anyone in leadership roles within the military. Leaders must be able to anticipate, manage, and guide teams through moments of emotional intensity while maintaining clarity and purpose under pressure. They must also consider how their own emotional responses might impact their judgment and ability to lead effectively in chaotic and high-stakes situations. This topic underscores the importance of training and preparation that goes beyond physical readiness and technical skills, addressing the mental and emotional resilience required to navigate the complexities of combat and to make sound decisions in the face of overwhelming challenges.
Political Critique and Military Context
Senator Elizabeth Warren’s critiques of Pete Hegseth were highlighted as notable but were also criticized for lacking the necessary military background to provide proper context or fully informed opinions on the issues at hand. Her arguments, while politically charged, raised broader questions about the qualifications and expertise required to effectively critique military leaders, whose roles and responsibilities often hinge on years of specialized training, experience, and an in-depth understanding of military structure and operations. Without a foundational grasp of the complexities of military service, leadership, and decision-making processes, critiques can risk being overly simplistic, misinformed, or influenced by partisan interests rather than rooted in the realities faced by the armed forces.
This raises important concerns about the qualifications and knowledge necessary for policymakers and public figures who wish to participate in conversations surrounding defense matters or evaluate the fitness of military leaders. In particular, the conversation emphasized the importance of having a basic understanding of military protocols, operations, and the challenging conditions under which decisions are made, as these factors are integral to assessing the actions and leadership of military officials. The discussion highlighted that while public officials play a key role in overseeing defense policies, this oversight is most effective when accompanied by a meaningful comprehension of the military’s inner workings. Without such understanding, critiques may lack nuance, effectiveness, and credibility, potentially undermining important national security discussions.
The Role of Secretary of Defense
The position of Secretary of Defense requires more than a surface-level understanding of military operations; it demands a deep and comprehensive grasp of the intricacies involved in running one of the most critical arms of the government. Successfully leading the Department of Defense means navigating the complex realities of national security, global military strategy, and the ever-evolving threats faced by the nation. A strong military background is not just an asset but is widely regarded as a crucial prerequisite for excelling in this role. Military experience provides a level of insight that cannot easily be acquired through academic study or political service alone.
It offers firsthand knowledge of the pressures and challenges faced by service members, the complexities of coordinating large-scale operations, and the realities of life on the ground during missions. Such experience equips leaders with the ability to empathize with military personnel while also making sound, pragmatic decisions that directly impact their safety, morale, and effectiveness. Beyond that, it provides the strategic perspective needed to assess global risks, anticipate potential conflicts, and allocate resources in a way that protects national interests.
Additionally, this type of expertise helps the Secretary of Defense to balance the military’s operational needs with broader political objectives and international diplomacy. Without this foundational understanding, a leader in this position may struggle to fully grasp the nuanced dynamics at play in matters of war, peace, and security, potentially leading to decisions that could have far-reaching negative consequences for both the military and the nation as a whole. As such, military experience is not merely beneficial for this role—it is an indispensable component of effective and informed defense leadership.
The Media and Military Narratives
Media narratives often oversimplify, sensationalize, or distort the realities of military service, creating a widespread gap between public perception and the actual experiences of veterans and active-duty personnel. These distorted portrayals can contribute to significant misconceptions about what life in the military truly entails, ranging from the challenges faced on the battlefield to the day-to-day realities of service members’ lives. By relying on dramatic, incomplete, or biased narratives, the media often fails to capture the full scope of the professionalism, sacrifices, and personal toll involved in military service, which can result in a skewed understanding among the general public.
The conversation stressed the critical need for a more accurate and nuanced portrayal of military life in order to bridge this disconnect. A deeper and more truthful representation would not only foster greater appreciation for the experiences and sacrifices of service members, but it would also help dispel harmful stereotypes that may undermine public support or understanding of the armed forces. Such accurate storytelling could highlight the unique challenges faced by military personnel, including the rigorous training, the physical and emotional demands of deployment, and the difficulties of reintegration into civilian life that many veterans encounter after their service.
In addition, it was emphasized that better-informed media coverage could foster a stronger relationship between civilians and the military, encouraging public awareness of the true cost of national defense. By presenting a well-rounded perspective on military life, from its sacrifices to its triumphs, the media has the potential to build more empathetic and supportive attitudes toward those who serve. Ultimately, the conversation underscored the importance of holding media outlets accountable for portraying military service with honesty and accuracy, as doing so would promote a healthier national dialogue and strengthen the bond between society and its armed forces.
Conclusion
The confirmation hearing of Pete Hegseth offers a valuable snapshot of broader, more complex issues at the intersection of military and political landscapes. It serves as a microcosm of the ongoing challenges and debates surrounding leadership qualifications, military standards, and the role of personal and political agendas in shaping public narratives. This hearing not only brought attention to Hegseth’s qualifications but also highlighted critical themes that extend far beyond his individual candidacy, touching on foundational questions about the future of military leadership and the perceptions surrounding it.
One of the central takeaways from the discussion was the unwavering importance of maintaining high standards within all military roles. The ability of the military to function effectively and carry out its missions without compromise hinges on the rigorous expectations set for service members. Regardless of background, role, or context, these standards must be upheld consistently for the sake of operational success, unit cohesion, and national security. Any deviation or potential lowering of these standards could jeopardize the lives of service members as well as the broader objectives of missions critical to the safety and stability of the nation.
Additionally, the discussion delved into the emotional dynamics experienced in combat and their far-reaching impact on decision-making processes and interpersonal relationships within the military hierarchy. Leadership in the armed forces demands more than just tactical knowledge or bureaucratic skill—it requires an acute understanding of the psychological toll that combat imposes on service members and their ability to perform under extreme pressure. Recognizing and accounting for these emotional factors is essential for leaders to guide and support their personnel effectively, while also ensuring that emotional resilience and mental readiness are considered primary aspects of military preparedness.
Moreover, the conversation underscored the unique value of military experience in political positions, particularly when it comes to defense-related roles. The firsthand knowledge and insights gained from serving in the military provide a critical perspective when shaping policies that impact both active-duty personnel and veterans. Having leaders with on-the-ground experience ensures that the complexities of military operations, the nuances of combat, and the realities of serving in challenging conditions are reflected in high-level decision-making processes. Policies created without such insight risk being detached from the realities faced by those on the front lines, potentially creating long-lasting consequences for the armed forces and the nation as a whole.
Finally, the hearing and subsequent discussion highlighted the need for more constructive initiatives aimed at better supporting veterans and ensuring that their voices are amplified in the political arena. Veterans, who bring a wealth of experience, discipline, and knowledge about service and sacrifice, are uniquely qualified to participate in conversations about defense and national security. However, they often face systemic hurdles when attempting to transition into government or political roles. Ensuring that their perspectives are heard and valued is essential for creating policies that are both effective and representative of those who are directly impacted by them. The emphasis on veteran support also extends to improving access to resources, mental health care, and job opportunities, all of which are critical for enabling service members to thrive after completing their time in the military.
In essence, Pete Hegseth’s confirmation hearing served as a reflection of these interconnected issues, calling attention to the importance of safeguarding military standards, the need for empathetic leadership that considers emotional dynamics, and the role of military experience in shaping effective policy. Above all, it emphasized the necessity of fostering a political and social environment that supports, respects, and uplifts the contributions of those who serve while ensuring their expertise informs the highest levels of decision-making.

Conservatives took to social media in force on Tuesday after a lively exchange during the confirmation hearing for Secretary of Defense nominee Pete Hegseth. The interaction in question occurred between freshman Senator Tim Sheehy of Montana and Hegseth, and it quickly gained widespread attention. The moment began when Senator Sheehy, who is known for his direct and pointed questioning, raised the topic of gender identity, a subject that has become highly contentious in recent years. During the discussion, Sheehy bluntly asked the nominee, “How many genders are there?” The question highlighted the cultural divide surrounding gender and identity issues in contemporary politics.
Without hesitation, Hegseth offered a concise and straightforward answer, stating, “Senator, there are two genders.” His response aligned with a traditional viewpoint on the topic, which resonated with many conservatives who later voiced their approval online. The Montana senator, known for his staunch conservative views, responded with a lighthearted remark, saying, “I know that well, I’m a Sheehy, so I’m on board.” His comment, a reference to the “she” and “he” within his own last name, underscored his agreement with Hegseth’s position. This exchange quickly became a focal point for conservative commentators and supporters alike, sparking an animated discussion across social media platforms. The moment not only highlighted ideological unity between the senator and the nominee but also reflected the ongoing cultural debates shaping current political discourse.
After Hegseth laughed at the freshman senator’s joke, Sheehy then went on to ask Hegseth, a fellow combat veteran, the diameter of a round fired out of a M4A1 rifle and how many pushups he could do.
The line of questioning, particularly the exchange on gender which Sheehy previously joked about on the campaign trail, immediately drew a response from conservatives.
“Right on,” GOP Congressman Darrell Issa posted on X.
“QUESTION OF THE DAY,” conservative influencer Benny Johnson posted on X.
“Legitimately the best joke every [ever] told in Congress,” conservative commentator Ian Haworth posted on X.
“Well, it looks like the new senator from Montana is a huge upgrade,” RealClearInvestigations senior writer Mark Hemingway posted on X in reference to former Democratic Sen. Jon Tester, who Sheehy defeated in November.
“Montana knew what they were doing when they put @TimSheehyMT in the Senate,” conservative commentator and former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines posted on X.
“A-freakin’-MEN!” Wendy Rogers, Republican state senator from Arizona, posted on X.
Sheehy told Fox News host Sean Hannity on Tuesday night that Hegseth is going to do a “great job” and “we support him.”
“That’s why my questions were directed the way they were,” Sheehy said. ” I wanted to remind people what this job is really about and it’s supporting the war fighter and protecting America.”
Rocci Stucci, known for his raw and unfiltered commentary, dives deep into the complexities of modern society, personal struggles, and the challenges of navigating a world filled with contradictions. In his recent broadcast, Stucci shares his frustrations with societal norms, hypocrisy in leadership, and the toxic systems that hinder personal and collective growth. With a mix of humor, personal anecdotes, and hard-hitting truths, Stucci delivers a message that resonates with many who feel disillusioned by the current state of the world.
Calling Out Hypocrisy in Leadership
Stucci begins by addressing the hypocrisy he observes in influential figures, particularly within the conservative movement. He recounts a personal encounter with a prominent conservative leader who publicly preached about faith and morality but, according to Stucci, acted in ways that contradicted those values behind closed doors. This duality, Stucci argues, undermines the authenticity of their message and alienates those who seek genuine leadership.
“Dude, you don’t need to use Jesus as a marketing tool,” Stucci says, emphasizing the importance of honesty and humility. He critiques the tendency of some leaders to weaponize religion while promoting divisive rhetoric, calling for a return to authenticity and passion in public discourse.
The Struggles of Everyday Americans
Stucci also sheds light on the challenges faced by middle-class Americans, particularly those trying to break free from systemic barriers. Sharing his own experience with Social Security disability, he explains how the system penalized him for attempting to re-enter the workforce. Despite earning only slightly above the allowed threshold, he was forced to repay a year’s worth of benefits—a situation he describes as both humiliating and unjust.
“Our system sucks,” Stucci declares, highlighting how bureaucratic red tape often discourages people from striving for self-sufficiency. He calls for a reevaluation of these systems to better support individuals who want to contribute to society without being punished for their efforts.
Generational Shifts and Cultural Observations
Stucci doesn’t shy away from addressing the cultural shifts he’s observed in younger generations. He describes them as a “different breed of human,” expressing concern over what he perceives as a lack of resilience, empathy, and traditional values. While acknowledging that every generation faces criticism from its predecessors, Stucci argues that the current cultural climate is marked by a dangerous desensitization to human connection and morality.
“There’s this real genuine hatred and desensitization of another person or their life,” he says, lamenting the loss of civility and mutual respect in society. Stucci also touches on the complexities of gender identity and the impact of these changes on sports, education, and societal norms, questioning the long-term implications of these shifts.
Personal Growth Through Painful Lessons
Amid his critiques, Stucci reflects on his own journey of personal growth, shaped by painful and humbling experiences. He acknowledges the value of these lessons, even as he struggles to reconcile the pain they’ve caused. “As painful and humiliating as it is, the true depth of the thought is that these are some of the most profound, valuable, painful lessons that I’ve ever experienced,” he shares.
Stucci’s reflections serve as a reminder that growth often comes from adversity, and he encourages his audience to persevere through their own challenges. “The only thing that matters is just get the fuck back up,” he says, emphasizing the importance of resilience and determination.
A Call for Authenticity and Passion
Throughout the broadcast, Stucci advocates for a return to authenticity and passion in all aspects of life. He criticizes the media industry for prioritizing clicks and corporate interests over meaningful content, urging creators to focus on what truly matters to them. “If you do what you love doing, there’s real passion behind that, and people feel that in your message,” he says.
Stucci’s message is clear: whether in leadership, media, or personal life, authenticity and passion are the keys to making a genuine impact.
Closing Thoughts
Rocci Stucci’s broadcast is a raw and honest exploration of the challenges facing individuals and society as a whole. From calling out hypocrisy in leadership to sharing his own struggles and lessons, Stucci offers a perspective that is both relatable and thought-provoking. His call for authenticity, resilience, and a return to passion resonates with those seeking to navigate an increasingly complex and contradictory world.
As Stucci puts it, “Life is tough, man, and I get it. But for some reason, we all get each other. That’s why we’re here.”
In today’s world, conversations about discipline, accountability, and leadership often spark heated debates. Whether it’s about parenting, societal values, or political leadership, the need for strong principles and clear boundaries remains a cornerstone of a thriving community. In a recent discussion, Chad Prather and Royce Chamberlain delved into these topics, offering their unapologetic take on the state of modern society, the importance of discipline, and the role of leadership in shaping the next generation.
One of the most striking points raised in the discussion was the role of discipline in parenting and its impact on children. Both Chad and Royce shared personal anecdotes about growing up in households where discipline was not just a suggestion but a way of life. They emphasized that discipline, when applied correctly, is not abuse but a form of love that teaches children accountability and respect for boundaries.
Chad humorously recalled his childhood experiences of being disciplined, from being spanked to picking out his own switch. While these memories were shared with a touch of humor, the underlying message was clear: discipline instills a sense of responsibility and helps children understand the consequences of their actions.
In contrast, the modern trend of “gentle parenting” and timeouts was criticized as ineffective. Chad argued that these methods often fail to teach children real accountability, instead allowing them to strategize new ways to misbehave. He stressed the importance of behavior modification and the need for parents to take an active role in shaping their children’s character.
Accountability Starts at Home
The conversation also touched on the broader implications of a lack of accountability in society. Chad and Royce pointed out that a generation raised without discipline often struggles with basic responsibilities, such as holding down a job or paying off debts.
Chad passionately criticized the growing trend of expecting government bailouts for personal financial decisions, such as student loan forgiveness. He argued that individuals must take responsibility for their choices and work to overcome challenges rather than relying on external help.
This lack of accountability, they suggested, has led to a culture of entitlement, where people expect others to solve their problems. Royce added that this mindset weakens society as a whole, creating a cycle of dependency and complacency.
Leadership and the Need for Strong Men
The discussion naturally transitioned to the topic of leadership, particularly in the context of politics and societal values. Chad and Royce lamented the decline of strong, principled leadership in recent years, attributing it to a culture that vilifies traditional masculinity and celebrates weakness.
Chad passionately rejected the concept of “toxic masculinity,” arguing that true masculinity is not toxic but protective and nurturing. He emphasized that strong men are essential for strong families, communities, and nations.
The duo also praised leaders like Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump for their unapologetic approach to leadership. They admired their ability to stand firm in their beliefs and prioritize the well-being of the nation over political correctness. Chad highlighted the importance of leaders who are willing to make tough decisions and hold others accountable, even in the face of criticism.
Protecting the Next Generation
Perhaps the most emotional part of the discussion was the emphasis on protecting children. Chad and Royce expressed their outrage at the harm being done to children in today’s society, from physical abuse to ideological manipulation.
They called for stronger penalties for those who harm children, arguing that society must take a firm stand to deter such behavior. Chad referenced the Bible, specifically the Book of Ezekiel, to emphasize the moral responsibility of giving a voice to the voiceless and protecting the innocent.
The duo also criticized the current state of education, where children are often exposed to confusing and harmful ideologies. They argued that parents must take an active role in their children’s upbringing and ensure that they are raised with strong values and a clear sense of right and wrong.
The Role of Community and Accountability
Chad and Royce concluded by emphasizing the importance of community in fostering accountability and discipline. They shared examples from their own lives, such as playing team sports, where accountability to teammates taught them valuable life lessons.
They argued that the first community every child belongs to is their family, and it is within the home that the foundation for accountability and discipline must be laid. By instilling these values early on, parents can help their children grow into responsible, resilient adults.
Final Thoughts: A Call for a Reset
The discussion ended with a call for a societal reset. Chad and Royce urged listeners to reject the culture of entitlement and victimhood and instead embrace accountability, discipline, and strong leadership.
They expressed hope for the future, praising the American people for stepping up and demanding change in recent elections. They also called for a “draining of the swamp” in Washington, advocating for a return to principled leadership and a focus on the well-being of the nation.
As Chad aptly put it, “Weak men create hard times, and hard times create strong men.” It’s time for society to break the cycle of weakness and rebuild a culture of strength, accountability, and discipline.
The Biden administration’s FDA took a major step on Wednesday toward banning current cigarettes in favor of those with lower nicotine levels. The proposed rule aims to make cigarettes and certain other tobacco products minimally or nonaddictive by limiting nicotine content. If finalized, the U.S. would become the first country to implement such a measure to combat smoking-related diseases and deaths, the FDA stated.
The agency first announced this plan in 2018, and Wednesday’s announcement marks a key step in the rulemaking process. The FDA will seek input through public comments and its Tobacco Products Scientific Advisory Committee. Earlier this month, the “Tobacco Product Standard for Nicotine Level of Certain Tobacco Products” cleared a regulatory hurdle, though the rule is not yet finalized.
FDA Commissioner Robert M. Califf, M.D., highlighted the potential of a new proposal to reduce tobacco-related disease, envisioning a future where fewer young people start smoking and more current smokers quit or switch to less harmful products. If finalized, this action could save lives, reduce severe illness and disability, and cut healthcare costs. Califf emphasized the importance of addressing the leading cause of preventable death in the U.S.
The FDA clarified that the proposal does not ban cigarettes or tobacco products but limits nicotine levels to 0.7 milligrams per gram of tobacco in cigarettes and certain other combusted products—significantly lower than current levels. However, experts warn that such regulations could boost black market activity. Former ATF assistant director Rich Marianos called the proposal a “gift” to organized crime, predicting that cartels and criminal groups would expand illicit tobacco operations, making cigarettes with higher nicotine levels accessible through illegal channels. This could increase public exposure to unregulated products and criminal risks.
The Biden administration’s push for this regulation follows its earlier attempt to ban menthol cigarettes, a key part of the Cancer Moonshot initiative. That effort faced backlash, with critics arguing it unfairly targeted minority communities and could spur illicit menthol sales. The administration eventually delayed the menthol ban amid public opposition.
“This rule has garnered historic attention and the public comment period has yielded an immense amount of feedback, including from various elements of the civil rights and criminal justice movement,” Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra said at the time. “It’s clear that there are still more conversations to have, and that will take significantly more time.”
The state of Massachusetts banned menthol cigarettes and flavored tobacco in 2020, with local police since uncovering illegal menthol cigarette sales in the state, including just this month when a man was busted with 700 packs of unstamped menthol cigarettes, as well as 38 bags of crack cocaine, the Boston Herald reported.
“Mass. banned menthols and dangerous criminals stepped right in to create an illegal supply chain and make millions in the underground market,” Marianos’ Tobacco Law Enforcement Network posted to X this week about the bust.
Former President Barack Obama signed the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act in 2009, which granted the FDA the power to regulate tobacco products. In the years since, the agency has worked to lower nicotine levels, including in July 2017 under the Trump administration, when then-FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb announced it would seek to require tobacco companies to drastically cut nicotine in cigarettes in an effort to help adult smokers quit.
The FDA announced in 2022 plans for the proposed rule that would lower levels of nicotine so they are less addictive or non-addictive.
“Lowering nicotine levels to minimally addictive or non-addictive levels would decrease the likelihood that future generations of young people become addicted to cigarettes and help more currently addicted smokers to quit,” FDA Commissioner Robert Califf said at the time.
In a groundbreaking policy announcement, former President Trump has unveiled plans for a new External Revenue Service (ERS) – a transformative agency designed to revolutionize how America collects revenue from foreign sources. This bold initiative aims to shift the tax burden from U.S. citizens to external entities through strategic tariffs and innovative collection methods.
The proposed ERS would operate alongside the Internal Revenue Service, focusing specifically on international revenue streams and implementing a comprehensive global import tariff structure. With plans for a universal 10% tariff on international imports and potential targeted tariffs of up to 60% on specific countries, this initiative represents a significant departure from traditional U.S. tax collection approaches.
This ambitious proposal promises to reshape America’s economic landscape by:
• Transforming international trade relationships
• Restructuring current revenue collection systems
• Potentially eliminating various domestic taxes
• Strengthening border protection measures
As we explore the details of this revolutionary proposal, we’ll examine how this new agency could fundamentally alter U.S. tax collection, impact international commerce, and potentially reshape America’s economic future.

Understanding the External Revenue Service (ERS) Initiative
Donald Trump’s vision for a new government agency, the External Revenue Service, is generating significant attention and sparking discussions across both the political and economic sectors. This proposed agency represents a bold and innovative shift in how the United States approaches its methods of revenue generation and collection. Unlike existing frameworks, which primarily focus on domestic sources, this initiative is designed to emphasize revenue streams from external, foreign sources. The creation of this new entity is seen as a strategic move to fundamentally alter the way the United States government obtains its income, highlighting a clear focus on international revenue opportunities.
The External Revenue Service is envisioned as a specialized and dedicated department, much like a company might establish an international sales team to handle global operations. Its primary goal would be to concentrate exclusively on identifying, managing, and collecting revenue from foreign sources and international economic engagements. This targeted focus stands out as a significant departure from traditional revenue strategies, with the agency positioned to work independently of current domestic taxation systems. Planned for implementation following Trump’s inauguration, this agency reflects his administration’s broader vision of rethinking and restructuring longstanding governmental processes. By narrowing its scope to foreign revenue, the ERS aims to address untapped income opportunities while potentially relieving some of the burden on domestic revenue collection methods.
This proposal represents a major turning point in U.S. fiscal policy because it introduces a new framework for generating government funding through external means, an area not traditionally given such concentrated attention. If successful, the ERS could serve as a model for transforming how global financial interactions contribute to national income. At its core, the idea challenges conventional approaches and suggests that the U.S. is ready to adopt new strategies to manage its economic priorities on an international level, further diversifying its revenue streams. Designed with a clearly defined purpose and focus, the External Revenue Service aims to be a pivotal agency in shaping the future of America’s financial landscape.
Contrast with Internal Revenue Service
The core objectives and primary functions of the ERS revolve around the important task of revenue collection, specifically targeting income and funds sourced from overseas and foreign entities. This newly established entity is dedicated to focusing its efforts on gathering revenue from international sources, serving as a specialized mechanism for addressing income generated outside the domestic economy. Much like the role performed by a customs officer who inspects and processes international shipments to ensure compliance, the ERS would operate with a similar purpose in its specific field. Its primary goal is to streamline the collection of funds originating from foreign sources in a precise and efficient manner. By implementing this focused approach, the intention is to alleviate some of the existing tax burden placed on American citizens while still ensuring the continuation of adequate government funding. In essence, this strategy seeks to shift the weight of revenue collection to external channels, balancing the nation’s need for financial resources with a reduced reliance on domestic taxation. Through this shift, the ERS aims to support the economic well-being of national citizens while maintaining a stable inflow of government revenue by tapping into international sources.
Core Objectives and Functions of ERS
The primary mission of this newly proposed entity is to focus on the collection of revenue specifically from overseas income streams and foreign sources, marking a significant shift in how government funding is approached. Central to its purpose is the idea of harnessing external financial contributions to support government operations, ensuring that funds are gathered from international avenues rather than relying solely on domestic taxation. Much like a customs officer whose expertise lies in managing and overseeing international shipments to ensure compliance and proper logistics, the ERS would operate with a similar level of precision in tracking and collecting income generated beyond the borders of the United States.
The primary focus of this agency would be the systematic and efficient collection of funds from external sources, ensuring that foreign income streams are properly tapped and contribute their share to the nation’s revenue. By prioritizing international income, the ERS seeks to create a more sustainable and balanced financial framework, one that decreases the reliance on taxes collected domestically and shifts part of the burden outward. This strategy is designed to directly alleviate the existing tax pressures on American citizens, reducing the financial load borne by individuals and businesses within the country while still maintaining a steady and sufficient flow of revenue necessary for the functioning of the government.
By leveraging international contributions and revenue streams, the ERS would ensure that America sustains its financial stability through external channels, creating an innovative and forward-thinking approach to revenue generation. Through this focused mission, the agency aims to strike a balance between supporting governmental needs and lightening the tax obligations placed on the American public, representing a targeted solution to challenges surrounding funding and taxation in an interconnected global economy.
Transforming US Trade Policy
The initiative is closely aligned with Donald Trump’s America-first trade policy, reflecting his long-standing commitment to prioritizing the economic interests of the United States above all else. Central to this vision is the belief that existing trade agreements have been poorly negotiated and overly favorable to foreign partners, resulting in economic imbalances that disadvantage American industries and workers. By addressing what he views as weak and outdated trade deals, Trump aims to create a system that better serves the nation’s economic goals and strengthens its position on the global stage.
This initiative represents a significant departure from traditional free trade approaches that have long emphasized open markets and minimal restrictions on international commerce. Instead, it focuses on implementing protective measures designed to safeguard U.S. interests, ensuring that American businesses, workers, and industries are not placed at a competitive disadvantage. The shift away from conventional free trade policies signals a broader effort to recalibrate the nation’s approach to global economic engagement, prioritizing fairness, reciprocity, and the protection of domestic economic assets.
Under this new framework, the United States’ current trade relationships would undergo substantial revisions, with a focus on renegotiating agreements to secure more favorable terms for American stakeholders. This could involve imposing stricter conditions on foreign partners, addressing trade imbalances, and introducing mechanisms to prevent practices that Trump views as unfair, such as currency manipulation or the exploitation of lax trade rules. The overarching goal is to create a trade environment that not only strengthens the U.S. economy but also reasserts America’s dominance in global commerce, ensuring that the nation’s economic policies align with its broader strategic interests.
Implementation Timeline and Strategy
During his earlier time in office, the Trump administration pursued and implemented a range of trade-focused policies that aligned with its broader agenda. This latest initiative draws heavily from those earlier efforts, using the experience gained during that period as a foundation. The plan is to further develop and expand upon these policies with the aim of securing a second, nonconsecutive term in office. The ultimate goal is to revisit and complete the broader vision that was initially set in motion during the previous administration.
Impact on International Commerce
This initiative would have a profound and far-reaching impact on the relationships the United States maintains with foreign nations as well as with its most significant trading partners around the globe. By implementing these changes, international commerce patterns are expected to undergo major adjustments, as businesses, both domestic and international, are compelled to adapt to the newly introduced methods of revenue collection and the evolving trade regulations. These shifts could potentially reshape the flow of goods and services across borders, creating new challenges and opportunities for companies as they navigate the altered landscape of global trade.
Proposed Global Import Tariff Structure
The plan proposes the introduction of stringent and far-reaching tariff measures on a range of imports coming from various foreign countries, targeting specific goods and trading partners deemed critical to the United States’ economic strategy. This newly implemented import tax system would have a particularly significant impact on U.S. importers who rely on goods and materials from these targeted nations, forcing them to either absorb higher costs or pass them on to consumers. By introducing these measures, the overarching goal is to fundamentally reshape existing trade dynamics, placing pressure on foreign nations while simultaneously seeking to generate additional revenue streams for the U.S. economy. Ultimately, this approach is designed to recalibrate the balance of trade in favor of the United States while addressing domestic economic objectives.
Border Protection and Revenue Collection
The United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) would play a critical and highly central role in the implementation and enforcement of this new system, ensuring that its regulations are effectively applied at all entry points across the country. Their responsibilities would likely expand to include increased monitoring, collection of tariffs, and oversight of goods entering the United States from abroad. Former President Trump has pointed to what he describes as a national economic emergency as the primary justification for introducing these enhanced border measures, emphasizing the need for stronger trade enforcement tools to protect U.S. industries and workers. This justification underscores the administration’s broader focus on prioritizing national economic interests and addressing perceived inequities in the global trading system through stricter import controls and border policies.
Historical Context and Previous Approaches
During his previous term in office, the Trump administration actively pursued and implemented a series of trade-focused policies that reflected its broader economic agenda. These policies were designed to prioritize American industries, reduce trade deficits, and address what the administration perceived as unfair trading practices by foreign nations. Drawing from those past efforts, this new initiative seeks to build on the experience and lessons gained during that time. It represents a continuation of the strategies previously undertaken, but with a renewed focus and determination. The ultimate goal is to secure a second, nonconsecutive term in office to revisit and further advance these policies, working to fully achieve and complete the long-term vision initially set in motion during the earlier administration. This approach underscores a commitment to reshaping global trade dynamics and pursuing a more advantageous position for the United States on the international stage.
Economic Implications and Projections
The American economy would likely experience substantial and potentially prolonged periods of adjustment under the implementation of this new system. Such sweeping changes to trade policies and revenue collection methods are expected to have immediate and noticeable impacts, creating both challenges and disruptions across a variety of industries and sectors. These economic shifts would likely lead to increased financial costs for businesses and consumers alike, as companies work to adapt to the new structure and absorb additional expenses. Furthermore, the knock-on effects would ripple through supply chains, with some industries facing heightened operational challenges due to increased tariffs or stricter regulations. This period of transition might bring about uncertainty in financial markets, shifts in employment patterns, and the need for significant strategic adjustments by businesses, all of which would influence the overall economic landscape in a variety of interconnected ways.
Government Restructuring and Administration
The establishment and operation of this government agency would necessitate substantial and far-reaching changes to the existing structure of the United States government, particularly in how it manages and oversees economic and trade-related initiatives. These adjustments would involve a reorganization of resources, the creation of new administrative frameworks, and potentially the allocation of additional funding to ensure the agency can fulfill its intended mission effectively. Such a move represents a clear departure from more conventional approaches to domestic tax administration, as it would involve a fundamentally different method of collecting revenue and overseeing trade enforcement. Unlike traditional tax systems that primarily rely on internal revenue collection mechanisms, this agency would shift focus towards tariffs and cross-border taxation policies, requiring a deeper integration of trade enforcement strategies into economic policy. This would not only challenge existing bureaucratic norms but could also demand a reevaluation of how domestic and international financial flows are managed within the broader system of U.S. governance. Ultimately, it marks a significant shift in the government’s approach to taxation and economic regulation, reflecting a broader ideological shift in policy priorities.
International Relations Impact
The nation’s overall approach to global trade would be shrouded in a high degree of uncertainty as it adapts to and implements these sweeping changes. These policies mark a significant shift in the United States’ stance on international commerce, replacing conventional practices with a system that could disrupt established trade agreements and longstanding partnerships. Such uncertainty could stem from a variety of factors, including reactions from foreign governments, potential retaliatory measures, and the adaptability of industries within the U.S. and abroad. This new organization, with its central role in the enforcement and regulation of these changes, would undoubtedly have profound implications that extend beyond economics into the realm of diplomacy. The organization’s significance would reshape how the United States engages with its global trading partners, creating both opportunities and challenges. Relationships with key allies and trading nations could become strained if they perceive these changes as protectionist or unfair, while adversaries may respond with countermeasures that escalate trade tensions. At the same time, some nations could view the reforms as an opportunity to renegotiate agreements or build stronger bilateral ties. Ultimately, the establishment of this organization and its mandate would redefine the landscape of diplomatic relationships, forcing a reassessment of economic alliances, trade negotiations, and the U.S. role in the global marketplace.
Future of US Revenue Collection
This dramatic change would lead to a substantial expansion of the purview of this new agency, pushing its responsibilities well beyond the traditional boundaries of existing U.S. governmental institutions. Unlike conventional tax or trade enforcement agencies, this new entity would delve into multiple aspects of domestic and international economics, acting as a pivotal force in regulating and driving policy decisions that could reverberate across numerous sectors of the economy. By linking its activities directly to the broader fiscal and trade strategies of the government, this agency would be uniquely positioned to influence not just the mechanisms of revenue collection, but also the long-term trajectory of economic growth and stability for the nation.
The Economic Revenue Service (ERS) would play a central, transformative role in reshaping America’s financial future. Its ability to enforce comprehensive tariff policies and other fiscal measures could redefine how revenue is generated and utilized to support domestic programs while simultaneously addressing trade imbalances with foreign nations. The ERS would serve as more than a regulatory body—it would become a strategic arm of economic policy, tasked with safeguarding national financial security and advancing the economic priorities of the United States in an increasingly competitive global marketplace. This extended authority highlights the agency’s role not just as an administrative entity but as a major driver of the country’s economic agenda as it transitions into a new era of fiscal governance. Its establishment would signal a clear pivot toward a more interventionist, protectionist approach to economic management, with significant implications for both the domestic economy and international trade relationships.
Conclusion
As we’ve explored Trump’s innovative External Revenue Service proposal, it’s clear that this initiative represents a potentially transformative shift in U.S. revenue collection and international trade policy. This bold vision aims to fundamentally reshape how America generates government income, moving from conventional domestic tax administration to a more externally focused approach.
The proposed ERS stands as a testament to Trump’s america-first trade policy, promising to reshape US trade ties and revolutionize border protection measures. While the implementation timeline and new department’s exact operational specifics remain subject to further development, the potential impact on international commerce and the American economy could be substantial.
Whether this dramatic change in revenue collection succeeds will depend on various factors, including international cooperation, economic conditions, and political support. As we look toward the future, the significance of this new organization in shaping U.S. fiscal policy cannot be understated. The coming months will be crucial in determining how this bold initiative transforms from vision to reality, potentially ushering in a new era of U.S. revenue collection and international trade relations.

Court documents revealed this week that Porter texted those involved in the scheme, with one text saying that betting on his “unders” propositions would reel in “big numbers.”
“No blocks no steals. I’m going to play first 2-3 minute stint off the bench then when I get subbed out tell them my eye killing me again,” Porter is said to have texted Shane Hennen, the latest person arrested, on Jan. 26 before his Toronto Raptors played a game.
Hennen was arrested at a Las Vegas airport on Sunday before he was set to board a one-way flight to Colombia.
Earlier last January, Porter also texted, “I went back to the locker room to get eye checked on. Idk if imma play much more. I’m Not starting second half. But if it’s garbage time I will shoot a million shots.”
Porter pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and faces over 20 years in jail, although prosecutors believe he will be sentenced to around four. His sentencing will be on May 20.
In court in July, Porter said he agreed to withdraw early from games to get out from under large gambling debts so he and co-conspirators could win bets on his performance.
“I know what I did was wrong, unlawful, and I am deeply sorry,” he said.
Porter received a lifetime ban on April 17 after the NBA found in an investigation that he had disclosed confidential information to sports bettors and bet on games in violation of league rules. The NBA prohibits players from betting on the league or any of its properties.
The NBA said it found that, from January to March of this year, while Porter was either with the Raptors or its G League team, Raptors 905, he placed “at least 13 bets on NBA games using an associate’s betting account.”
Porter’s lawyer, Jeff Jensen, said in June that Porter had been “in over his head due to a gambling addiction” but was getting treatment and cooperating with law enforcement.
One of Porter’s brothers, Coban, began serving a six-year sentence in April for a fatal DUI crash. Another brother, Michael, is a mainstay with the Denver Nuggets.
An expansion of a Denver law from the late ’90s will allow for unlimited needle exchange sites across the city and remove a previously required restraint on proximity to schools and daycares.
The Denver City Council approved the new ordinance which removes the previous three-site cap established by the 1997 law and allows an unlimited number of sites to exist in areas zoned for medical offices, according to The Denver Post.
Beyond that, though, it also negates the 1,000-foot buffer between the needle-sharing sites and schools or daycares but the ordinance still needs Mayor Mike Johnston’s approval.
Needle-sharing sites are intended to lessen the usage and spread of dirty needles and offer fresh injecting equipment to just about anyone.
Tainted or used materials can also be dropped off at the sites to be disposed of.
The sites are intended to aid with addiction recovery and ensure that anyone using drugs that require injections is at least doing it with clean materials.
Used needles can infect users with diseases like hepatitis.
The sites also offer mental health and other addiction treatment options to anyone looking for help.

The city council approved the ordinance in an 8-5 vote.
Opponents on the council said that while they understand the good that can come from the sites, they want to see some more stringent rules.
They said that they would support an expansion of the needle-sharing programs including increasing the cap, but in moderation.

Most of all, they don’t support axing distancing requirement — and want to keep the sites away from schools and kids.
“Needle exchange does work. Our communities have been clear … that removing the distance restriction is something that they do not support,” Councilman Darrell Watson, who opposed the bill, said in the meeting.
“I don’t believe that if this bill passes — and it’s signed by our mayor — that anything is going to change in your life. Unless one of your relatives who’s on the edge happens to get a clean needle and stays alive long enough to get into treatment,” Councilman Paul Kashmann, who voted in favor of the law, told the local newspaper.
Johnson, who was admittedly wary about the proposal to bolster the 1997 law, has yet to sign or veto the bill, but with a Sunday deadline, the clock is ticking.
Supporters of the policy pointed to data showing that drug users who visit needle exchange programs are more likely to seek treatment compared to other addicts.
All needle-sharing centers are required to be licensed by the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment.
The revised law would also require that any potential site receive permission from the surrounding communities before officially establishing anything as part of their license agreement with the DDPH.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., was once again the subject of a viral roast campaign after an unhinged rant on the House of Representatives floor on Tuesday.
Ocasio-Cortez spoke out against The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act in a two-minute tirade that included both false and unsubstantiated claims. Her speech ended with an unexplained claim that “CEOs love this bill” as it relates to the ongoing California Wildfires.
The bill ultimately passed and will now head to the Senate after all 216 House Republicans voted in favor, along with just two Democrats. Meanwhile, 206 Democrats, including Ocasio-Cortez, voted against the bill.
Ocasio-Cortez opened her argument by referencing Republicans’ history in voting against the “Violence Against Women Act” and an apparent false claim in reference to their stance on abortion rights.
“Republicans who have voted consistently against the violence against women act, who have taken away the right of all women to choose and have control over their own body, who, as women are bleeding out in parking lots across the country, standing there, allowing us to die, now want to pretend today that they care about women!” Ocasio-Cortez said.
Abortion is currently protected by state law in 21 states and the District of Columbia, and President-elect Trump has repeatedly insisted that under his administration, abortion rights will be left up to the states.
Ocasio-Cortez was also one of many Democrats to push unsubstantiated claims that the law would subject young girls to sexual predators.
“And why? To open up gender, and yes, genital examinations into little girls of this country, in the so-called name of attacking trans girls!” Ocasio-Cortez continued.
Nowhere in the bill does it state that girls or women would be subject to genital examination in order to participate in sports. However, Ocasio-Cortez, along with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and other Democrats opposing it, have cited that possibility as their top argument in opposing the act.
“The majority right now says there’s no place in this bill that says it opens up for genital examinations. Well, here’s the thing, there’s no enforcement mechanism in this bill. And when there is no enforcement mechanism, you open the door to every enforcement mechanism!” Ocasio-Cortez said.
The bill provides that it is a violation of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 for federally funded education programs or activities to operate, sponsor, or facilitate athletic programs or activities that allow individuals of the male sex to participate in programs or activities that are designated for women or girls.
Under the bill, sex is based on an individual’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.
Ocasio-Cortez has been a consistent advocate for trans inclusion in women’s sports and has previously used the word “predatory” to describe those who oppose it. In November, Ocasio-Cortez re-shared a video of Green Party VP candidate Butch Ware speaking out against trans inclusion in women’s sports, with a caption that read, “This ticket is predatory and people deserve better.”
And now, despite many in her party and liberal media figures publicly disavowing support for trans inclusion, Ocasio-Cortez isn’t wavering in her stance on what a woman or girl is.
“Trans girls are girls!” Ocasio-Cortez said at Tuesday’s hearing.
Ocasio-Cortez then commenced with a series of incoherent and unfinished sentences about the issue.
“And for all the folks that are so concerned, thank you for your concern about women for the first time that I’ve seen. I don’t know about y’all. I don’t know who’s been to gym class lately, but girls, even if you only believe there’s only two genders, I’ve played co-ed sports all the time!” she said, before moving onto another point.
Ocasio-Cortez’s next point was to warn that the bill may result in an appreciation of traditional feminity.
“What this also opens the door for, is for women to try to perform a very specific kind of femininity for the very kind of men who are drafting this bill, and to open up questioning of who is a woman because of how we look, how we present ourselves, and yes, what we chose to do with our bodies,” she said.
The bill does not address anything to do with how biological females dress, present themselves or any potential anatomical or bodily decisions.
Ocasio-Cortez concluded her speech by claiming the bill is “loved” by “bigots” and “assaulters,” before making her unexplained connection to CEOs and the California Wildfires.
“Biggoted folks love this bill. Assaulters love this bill, but also CEOs love this bill. Because Los Angeles is on fire right now, and this is the No. 1 priority this majority has,” she said, before leaving the podium.
Ocasio-Cortez was the subject of harsh criticism on social media for her tirade later on Tuesday.
Ocasio-Cortez has previously co-sponsored the Equality Act, which was proposed in 2019 and has had revisions that “would force public schools to allow biologically male athletes who identify as transgender on girls sports teams.”
In March 2023, Democrats, including Ocasio-Cortez, advocated for a transgender bill of rights, proposing a resolution “recognizing that it is the duty of the Federal Government to develop and implement a Transgender Bill of Rights.”
However, now the issue of preventing trans inclusion has become a bipartisan priority, that Republicans and Trump have simply taken the lead on.
Texas A&M University pulled the brakes on an upcoming conference trip after Gov. Greg Abbott, R., discovered that only applicants of a particular race could attend.
On Monday, conservative activist Christopher Rufo posted an image of the university promoting the PhD Project’s Annual Conference in Chicago. The application specified that the conference is “designed for historically underrepresented individuals considering business doctorial studies,” and only Black/African American, Latinx/Hispanic American or Native American/Canadian Indigenous students were eligible.
“Texas A&M is sponsoring a trip to a DEI conference that prohibits whites and Asians from attending. The university falsely claims that this use of taxpayer funds does not violate the state’s DEI ban. @TAMU is supporting racial segregation and breaking the law,” Rufo wrote.
The post eventually caught Abbott’s eye late Monday, leading him to threaten the job security of the university’s president if the matter was not corrected.
“Hell, no. It’s against Texas law and violates the US Constitution. It will be fixed immediately or the president will soon be gone,” Abbott warned.
The university eventually put out a statement on its X account, reiterating that it does not discriminate based on race in compliance with SB-17, a state law that bans diversity, equity and inclusion offices in Texas public colleges.
“Texas A&M does not support any organization, conference, process or activity that excludes people based on race, creed, gender, age or any other discriminating factor. The intent of SB-17 is very clear in that regard. We will continue to honor both the letter and the intent of the law,” the post read.
In a statement sent to Fox News Digital, university President Mark A. Welsh III acknowledged the application in question and conceded the conference itself was “not in line” with the state’s law, canceling the trip altogether.
“While the proper process for reviewing and approving attendance at such events was followed, I don’t believe we fully considered the spirit of our state law in making the initial decision to participate,” the statement read. “This particular conference’s limitations on the acceptable race of attendees is not in line with the intent of SB-17, and, as a result, we will not be sending anyone to participate in this conference.”
Welsh continued, “Texas A&M faculty and staff attend hundreds, if not thousands, of conferences and other events during the course of each academic year. We need to be sure that attendance at those events is aligned with the very clear guidance we’ve been given by our governing bodies.”
The statement was sent to staff and faculty at the Mays Business School.
Fox News Digital also reached out to the governor’s office for a comment.
The PhD Project Annual Conference has been set up by the Pathways to Research and Doctoral Careers (PREDOC) consortium and will be held in March. PREDOC’s website described the application process as “exclusive” and “designed for historically underrepresented individuals considering business doctoral studies.”
Golf icon and Southern California native Tiger Woods is speaking out as wildfires continue to wreak havoc on the Los Angeles region.
Woods was born in Cypress, California, which is located roughly 45 miles from Los Angeles’ Pacific Palisades neighborhood. The Palisades fire is one of the largest and one of the most destructive wildfires sweeping across the area.
Woods had been publicly silent about the tragedy, until Tuesday. He released a statement saying his heart was with those who have been impacted by the devesting wildfires.
“The devastation that is ongoing with the LA fires is such a tragedy and being from California, it hits home,” Woods said in a statement shared to his social media platforms. “My heart is with those who have suffered unimaginable loss. Thank you to the incredible heroes that are the first responders helping to contain and save the community of Los Angeles.”
The 15-time major winner also vowed to release more details about his personal contributions to the communities affected by the disasters.
“We plan to provide an update on our own charitable efforts to help these communities in the coming weeks. Stay strong LA!”
Firefighters and first responders continue to work to fully contain the Palisades and Eaton fires, both of which were sparked last week.
On Tuesday, the death toll rose to 25. Officials confirmed at least eight people died due to the massive Palisades fire, while the Eaton fire claimed 17 lives. An estimated 35 individuals remain unaccounted for.
Forecasters said strong winds in the region will bring an elevated fire threat throughout Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Kristin Crowley said “life-threatening and destructive and widespread winds” are in the region, which could fuel the growth of new or existing wildfires in Los Angeles County and Ventura County.
“Extreme fire danger will continue thru Wed. PDS Red Flag Warnings are for the extreme of the extreme fire weather scenarios,” the NWS Los Angeles wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “In other words, this setup is about as bad as it gets. Stay aware of your surroundings. Be prepared to evacuate. Avoid anything that can spark a fire.#cawx.”
Brazilian Olympian Bruno Lobo rescued a drowning woman off the coast of Sao Luís, Brazil on Jan. 10, and gave all the credit to God for putting him in position to perform the heroic deed.
“The day that God used me as an instrument to save this young woman, all honor and glory to Him,” wrote in a post on Instagram (translated from Portuguese).
Lobo, who is also an orthopaedic doctor, competed in kite surfing at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He is also a two-time Pan American Games champion.
At the time of the rescue, he was busy training, he said in the video. Lobo claimed that he went into the ocean at around 5:40 p.m. local time “to do the last test.”
“It was a cloudy day, wind conditions were not the best, but I decided to test the support that had arrived, it was the first day using this material, I set the camera to record and went towards the coast,” he said in the video.
Then he saw her.
“After sailing a few meters, I heard a cry for help and looked at the girl who was drowning. I quickly approached her with the kite. I tried to calm her down and asked to climb on my back. She was quite tired and without power. I used the equipment to bring her safely to the sand,” Lobo continued.
Lobo used his gear to help bring the woman back to shore, and then lifeguards gave her further assistance.
“Olympic kitesurfer Bruno Lobo jumped into action when he spotted a woman struggling in the ocean while training with his new camera off the coast of São Luís, Brazil. Using his kite, he carried her safely to shore,” the statement read. “Great job Bruno.”
Bruno concluded his video with a warning to fans and viewers.
“Be warned about the dangers of the sea, rivers and any place you don’t know because the current in some places tends to be very strong!”
Vice President Kamala Harris served up some of her trademark “word salad” Monday during a White House briefing on the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.
Harris, 60, urged Southern California residents displaced by widespread evacuation orders to remain patient as first responders work to ensure neighborhoods are safe to re-enter.
However, several X users noted that it took the vice president far more words than necessary to express her point.

“It’s critically important that, to the extent you can find anything that gives you an ability to be patient in this extremely dangerous and unprecedented crisis, that you do,” Harris said in her wordy message to Californians eager to get back home.
One X user described the vice president’s message as “Classic Kamala.”
“‘Be patient’ means the same thing but listen to this word salad instead,” another person tweeted.
A different social media user remarked on how they continue to be amazed by “how long it takes her to get to the point.”
“So basically, these victims should be unburdened by what has been,” read one X user’s summary of Harris’ remarks, which referenced one of the vice president’s most famous word-salad catchphrases.

Several supporters of President-elect Donald Trump chimed in to argue that the country “dodged a bullet” on Election Day, and reminded people Harris’ “word salads” will soon be a thing of the past – at least in the White House.
“Yes. Be patient,” one Trump supporter wrote, before adding, “Competent leadership will be here in one week.”
“Word salads are off the menu after January 20th,” another X user posted, referring to Trump’s inauguration date.
A New York City teacher was arrested Tuesday morning after he allegedly exposed his penis and inserted it inside a Lysol container at a Bronx school in front of students, according to police and law enforcement sources.
City Department of Education educator Dana Barschdorf, 44, was charged with two counts of attempted lewdness for the alleged disturbing behavior around 8:45 a.m. while working inside a PS 723 building at 1455 Webster Avenue, which serves students with Autism in kindergarten through 4th grade, cops said.
The teacher has been reassigned pending an investigation into the allegations, DOE officials said.
The alleged incident happened at the school building at 1455 Webster Avenue in the Bronx. Google maps
“This alleged behavior is completely unacceptable,” a DOE spokesperson said in an email.
Barschdorf was reported to authorities by other staff, according to police.
Attempts to immediately reach him were unsuccessful Tuesday night, but a LinkedIn profile with the same name listed him as a special education teacher.
Further information about Barschdorf was not provided by the DOE.
The alleged pervert earned close to $100,000 annually in 2024, according to data from SeeThroughNY.
An 8-year-old Fboy was “brutally mauled and killed” after he stopped riding his bike to pet two dogs at the entrance of a Florida neighborhood on Monday, according to Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood.
Michael Millett was riding bikes with a friend in the Berry Ridge neighborhood in DeLand on Monday at around 4:55 p.m. when he was “maliciously mauled” to death at the scene by two dogs who appeared to be friendly at first, Chitwood said.
“It goes from petting, and a very friendly encounter, to the dogs becoming very, very, very vicious and very violent,” Chitwood said in a news conference on Tuesday.
Millett was bitten 12 times by the two dogs, which have been identified as a Pit Bull Terrier and possibly a Catahoula, or some other herding breed.
Chitwood said he wasn’t sure how long the attack lasted, but that he does not think the little boy suffered for a long time as his injuries were “just horrific.”
“We are going to do everything humanly possible to hold the owner of these dogs responsible, and we are going to do everything possible to make sure that these dogs are destroyed,” the sheriff said.
The dogs were ultimately taken into custody by Volusia County Animal Services after being chased back to their property by deputies, and VCAS Director Angela Miedema said the agency is waiting on the owner to sign the dogs over for “humane euthanasia.”
“Every one of his 12 bite wounds have been swabbed for DNA so we can conclusively say that these two dogs that they have in custody are the dogs responsible for Michael’s death,” the sheriff said.
The owner, who has the ability to appeal with due process, is known to law enforcement and has been arrested nine times in the past for various charges related to drugs, domestic violence and assault, according to Chitwood.
She was not on her property at the time of the attack or when the dogs ran back to their home, which is approximately half a mile from where Millett was killed.
State attorneys are involved in the investigation and Chitwood said his priorities are to make sure the owner is charged and the dogs are “destroyed.”
“She needs to be held accountable,” Chitwood said. “We have to prove negligence as the bottom bar.”
When deputies and animal control officers arrived at the property to confiscate the dogs, they noted that the property was not fully fenced in, and the dogs had the ability to get out easily, which was confirmed by neighbors who told authorities that the dogs regularly ran astray.
“As we went door to door last night, we heard horrific stories of how the dogs are always at large, of how they destroyed chickens,” Chitwood said on Tuesday, adding that the dogs were possibly involved in another incident in another county.
Despite reports that the dogs were often out roaming, Chitwood said there were not any 911 calls to the sheriff’s office or animal services about the animals or the address they live at.
“Clearly, this just didn’t happen in a vacuum,” Chitwood said. “These dogs have been terrorizing the neighborhood for a while and nobody decided to call us.”
The only 911 call related to the dogs that Chitwood was aware of is the one made on Monday reporting the attack on Millett, in which his mother can be heard screaming for help in the background.
She reportedly jumped on top of him to stop the attack and attempted CPR, which was unsuccessful as he died at the scene. The dogs never attacked the mother or the other kids in the area, and Chitwood said he isn’t sure why Millett was the only one bitten.
A dog bite fatality expert is working with the county medical examiner to determine more details about the deadly incident, including which dog attacked first and which one caused the most bites.
“Pet ownership is an enormous responsibility,” Miedema said. “You have a lot of responsibilities as a dog owner to keep your animal confined to your property and ensure the public’s safety, as well as ensure things like socialization and training to make sure that this animal is not a threat to anybody else.”
A GoFundMe set up for Millett’s parents by other family members described his death as a “tragic accident” and devastating.
“Our family is devastated with the loss of Michael,” read the fundraiser, which has amassed more than $40,000. “He was incredibly smart, funny, caring, loving, and so adventurous. Michael’s contagious laugh and light will be missed tremendously.”
